A question about the pre-Blood & Fire "Heart Of The Congos" releases

I love the B&F version lots but am curious as to how different the mix is on, say, the VP issue that's still available. I remember reading somewhere, probably in the Dave Katz Perry biography, that Scratch made like 5 different mixes of this album: some with more/less FX, percussion. Does anyone here own the VP or another version? What are the differences besides obvious clarity, et.al that comes through after remastering?

I had this version and sold it back after a day or two. It just doesn't stack up to the B&F reissue at all. Everything sounds muddy, which is kind of a big issue in a record where the interplay between distinct vocal/percussion/sound fx is so important. I can't comment much on different mixes, but I can't imagine this was how Perry intended it. It sounded more like a master from a late-generation tape than a different mix.
