Defend the Indefensible: Mick Jagger, "Ruthless People"

I saw the video on Classic VH-1 the other day. Holy shit!! What an awful song! Is this why Jagger insisted on a solo career?

I checked the writing credits; did Dave Stewart and DARYL HALL contribute to this aerobicized nonsense?

I don't remember how this song goes, only that it sucks. But it reminds me of the VH-1 show "The List" a few years ago. Alexandra Wentworth was on, and she put Mick on her list of coolest frontmen. And then they showed a clip of mick prancing around (maybe Shattered?) .. and she immediately withdrew her nomination after seeing as she called it, "workout with Kathy Lee."

So I thought that was funny, and that's all I can remeber except for movie clips that were kinda funny but had nothing to do with Mick.

I think that song is the pinnacle of Mick's "Hi! I'm completely out of ideas!" phase.

Actually, he did sneer out a couple of good solo bits. I quite like "Throwaway" and "Just Another Night," both of which showed he could come up with fun generic, er, throwaways solo. And "Wandering Spirit" is an excellent Stones simulation.

But, geez, "Ruthless People"...

What was the track he did with the Jacksons? That was a real keeper too.

"State of Shock"

...which he sang with Tina Turner at Live Aid.

I guess making Walter Yetnikoff a Executive Producer explains how they landed prime CBS real estate like Jagger doing the title track, a previously uncollected Springsteen outtake/b-side, and a single from Billy Joel's then-new album for the film.
