So his new album was released in the States yesterday, and I havent heard a word about it so far. Of course, mixed reviews of Fantasma are all over the place, and i really can't get a good feel just by reading. What do you guys think of the new record and Fantsma? Get to it.

I think there are 3 other Cornelius threads lurking around ILM. I probably posted my answers to your questions there. In a nutshell, I prefer Fantasma... Point is ok, but it chooses to be laid back and subtle rather than explosive and thrilling. It's a very calm and pleasant record but many of the reasons I liked Cornelius in the past have been decidedly muted.

i always felt he was a bit of an inferior, style-mag rendition of what Japanese pop should be like. only without the pop bits.

Fantma includes sopt-on pastiches of MBV, odd cut-ups, beats, ballads etc. etc. Listen to sounclips at cdnow. Also, check out his label Trattoria - www2.eccosys.co.jp/~kawakazu/ - the Prego! compilations are great.

Re P5, I really love them...apart from those 'Swing Out Sister B-side' style songs they intersperse their albums with.

I absolutely adore his FANTASMA album. My fave record of 1998.
