Can you imagine how huge a Police reunion would be?

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

The Smiths--When the singer calls the bassist and drummer irrelevant in court, that hurts reunion chances.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

Why not Age of Chance, out of curiosity?

Police reformation = inevitable unless one of them dies. Someone someday will stump up enough ca$h.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

Sonny and Cher

Dr. Gene Scott (shinybeast), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

The Beach Boys

stephen morris (stephen morris), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

same kind of personality conflict issues that prevent Smiths reforming ..

just that the world aren't quite as aware in AOC's case.

The Beach Boys broke up?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

Can we limit these to bands where none of the original/prominent members are dead? I realize reunions don't have to include all the original/prominent members, but it would, IMHO, make this thread slightly more interesting.

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

Talking Heads. I figure if it was going to happen, it would have by now.

Curious George (Bat Chain Puller) (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

Not that anyone has done that yet.. Just a preemptive strike here.

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

I'm with Spencer, though. As long as musicians are alive, they are never immune to reunion fever at any given time.

My first answer would be Jane's Addiction, the original one. (Then again, who knows if Eric Avery will cave in twenty years from now.)

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

Led Zep & Bee Gees

PappaWheelie, Tuesday, 3 May 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

None. If Dinosaur Jr. and the Pixies could do it, nothing's too outlandish.

(OK, OK - Guns 'n Roses)

mike a, Tuesday, 3 May 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

I doubt Royal Trux will ever get back together. (Herrema + Haggerty, I mean.)

The Band.
Fugazi?

KPH, Tuesday, 3 May 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

The Band would indeed be a tricky one, like the Beatles.

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

How about Elvis Costello and The Attractions? Don't tell me about Imposters.

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

Mott The Hoople -- I've been waiting for it since the early '90s, but some Hunter/Ralphs tour dates are the closest that they've come.

John Fredland (jfredland), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

Leaders of the New School

BanjoMania (Brilhante), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

isn't fugazi on hiatus only because of family concerns, etc.? if so, i imagine they'll do at least a one-off in DC at some point ... prob for a benefit gig or something.

rajeev (rajeev), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

Wasn't there a thread on a similar subject recently?

Anyhow, I'm with Spencer and DD, everyone will reunite eventually. If Dino Jr. and the VU reunited, then anybody can.

Even Spacemen 3 (they're my longlonglongshot).

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Can you imagine how huge a Police reunion would be?

Only everyday.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

A Family reunion would be absolutely great, but I guess they're not well-enough known - it's kind of very hard to imagine anyway. (see also : Gryphon)

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 21:20 (twenty years ago)

How about Elvis Costello and The Attractions?

Last time that happened was two years ago, I think. I guess it will happen again when he feels like making a "rock" album.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

Michael J McGonigal (mike mcgonigal), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 22:21 (twenty years ago)

you'd have to define what exactly is "reuniting" right? i mean "the misfits" have toured recently, but most people would probably debate how genuine that lineup actually is... likewise dead kennedys without biafra, etc.

j fail (cenotaph), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

The Stone Roses. but they may fall under the "if the Pixies and Dinosaur Jr..." heading.

gspm (gspm), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

The Dead Kennedys seem unlikely to reunite anytime soon, although i'm sure people would be excited about it.

Sam Hunt (robosam), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

Talking Heads. I figure if it was going to happen, it would have by now.

They did for the R&R Hall Of Fame a couple years ago.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

The original "Karl & Kendra" line up of the Dream Syndicate

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

The original lineup of Drunks With Guns.

Fugazi doesn't seem to be broken up, as such--I gather that the situation is that they may well work together again eventually, but they've got other stuff happening right now.

On the other hand, I imagine your chances of seeing a Minor Threat reunion show are, um, zero.

Douglas (Douglas), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:59 (twenty years ago)

The Beach Boys broke up?

I guess that depends on what you think of Mike Love.

stephen morris (stephen morris), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 01:20 (twenty years ago)

Guns N Roses original line up.
Original Smashing Pumpkins.

elgolfo (elgolfo), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 02:02 (twenty years ago)

I read some interview with Ian MacKaye recently (can't remember exactly where) and he insisted that Fugazi was just on hiatus, that they had no desire to stop working together.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

Elgolfo, why do you think the original Pumpkins line up won't get together? I don't think it's that unlikely that D'arcy would come back into the fold for a reunion tour in the future.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 02:08 (twenty years ago)

i was gonna say Galaxie, instead i'll say Take That

AleXTC (AleXTC), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 08:12 (twenty years ago)

the housemartins ! (apart the unbelievably unlikely prospect of fatboy slim revisiting his 80s twee-ist roots, i believe their drummer is in prison)

debden, Wednesday, 4 May 2005 08:27 (twenty years ago)

Crass always said they'd never reunite, but I think some of them did do something as Crass or something with Crass in the name a year or 2 ago as part of an anti-war compilation?

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

N.W.A. sans Eazy E

They already did, around 2000 (with Snoop subbing for Eazy. Should have used Em instead, his voice is closer).

And Fatboy Slim has worked on the last two or three Beautiful South albums, so there's three out of four Housemartins (if you allow the second drummer)

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 08:50 (twenty years ago)

Buddy Holly

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 08:54 (twenty years ago)

The Housemartins could always reform with (original guitarist) Ted Key instead of Norman Cook - and if Dave Whitaker's in prison they could have (original drummer) Hugh Whitaker (or vice versa).

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 09:05 (twenty years ago)

but would pd heaton be interested in singing for them, considering his super soaraway success in the beautiful south? or is there also an original singer who is not currently incarcerated?

debden, Wednesday, 4 May 2005 09:13 (twenty years ago)

Bay City Rollers. I doubt the others would think it would be a good idea considering one of the members is by known as a child molester.

The same thing only goes for Jackson Five if Michael loses the ongoing court case, which seems less and less likely for every day. I believe there will be several reunifications of Jackson Five coming up.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 09:23 (twenty years ago)

If you read last month's Mojo, the prospect of Les McKeown ever singing with the Bay City Rollers again is about as likely as the UK Independence Party winning the election tomorrow.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 09:29 (twenty years ago)

I believe there will be several reunifications of Jackson Five coming up.

really ? i thought they were all on very bad terms. plus can MJ really perform these days ? i saw a tv performance from like 2-3 years ago. it was in playback and he couldn't do anyhting but try to hide his face with his hands...
quite pathetic when you've been blasted by his performances circa thriller...

AleXTC (AleXTC), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 09:36 (twenty years ago)

about as likely as the UK Independence Party winning the election tomorrow.

Sure. Somebody needs to tell the guys in that UK Independence Party that the Romans, the Danes, the Norwegians and the Normans have all left. And that the UK is, long since, completely independent already.

;)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 09:42 (twenty years ago)

"Somebody needs to tell the guys in that UK Independence Party that the Romans, the Danes, the Norwegians and the Normans have all left."

That's not actually entirely true....

..... not that I'm suggesting that something not being entirely true would bother a career politician you understand; just saying.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 11:08 (twenty years ago)

A Lost Sounds reunion seems unlikely :-(

Styx w/DeYoung

I can still see that happening again. So long as he's still out singin' those songs, I bet they could find a way to make it work (for at least a one show only kinda thing).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

The Misfits w/ Danzig. I think those dudes really hate each other.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

They do,.....but Glenn's been singing `Fits tunes with Doyle lately. Doyle is Jerry's brother. I can see a profitable reconcilliation happening there.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

Look Blue Go Purple

hmm, i don't see why they couldn't, but i also can't see why they would. so you're probably right!

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

Hmm. I thought The Beatles were already mentioned. After George Harrison's death, that would be more unlikely than ever before.

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

Iron Maiden w/- Paul D'Ianno. Speculation abounds since they're doing a greatest hits tour to promote the Early Years release, but I can't see it happening, as cool as it might be (the state of Paul's voice now notwithstanding). I read an interview somewhere online where he said that he wouldn't do it.

Now that Siouxsie and Budgie have split, I doubt there'll ever be another Banshees go-round...which is too bad, because her solo record stinks.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 12 November 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

Wham!, mostly because it's essentially just George Michael solo with Andrew Ridgely jumping around and doing nothing.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 00:59 (eighteen years ago)

Wham! have reunited on a couple occasions when Andrew Ridgeley needed money, and they may again.
