Greatest Lead Singer Idiosyncracy

Buddy Holly's hiccups, hands down (see "Not Fade Away," "Rave On"). Timeless. Classic. Launched many many careers. Still sounds cool today.

Also:

- The way Nick Drake elongates the consonants at the end of words, particularly words ending in -ing or -n.....takes a while to notice, but then becomes conspicuous.

- Lindsey Buckingham's manic yelps (see "Big Love" from The Dance)

- The way Kurt Cobain made his voice crack (listen between "sold" and "the" on "The man who sold the world"). Fuck you. It's great.

- etc.

Michael Stipe's nasal and cutting long E sound.

As in the word "ME" in "Me in Honey."

"Jam-awwws"? I'd like a consensus on the spelling, please. I prefer "Shamone."

Oh, and also: the Jimi Hendrix half-laugh at the end of many of his lines, like "I'm not the only soul-uh / Who's accused of hit-and-run-uh / Tire tracks all across your back-uh / I can see you had your fun--uh--but."
