!!! do Magnetic Fields ... surprisingly gentle?

I was expecting way more "unh"s, much more waggling. The funky bassline thing is a little out of place amidst the all the shoegaze washes ... I feel like this would actually be way better with the bass and percussion completely out and maybe just some light Kevin Fields esque drums in its place.

Nate Dogg cover on the b is fun but not great.

Xii (Xii), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:59 (twenty years ago)

Kevin Shields. I shouldn't write papers and read ILM at the same time.

Xii (Xii), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 04:52 (twenty years ago)

does kevin play drums?

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

I just meant the drums his material tends to have.

Xii (Xii), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 06:50 (twenty years ago)

Save me a google...what did they cover?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

or remix

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

This thread is much less filthy than I expected.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

...that's really, really good...huh. When does the vinyl come out?

Telephonething, Wednesday, 4 May 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

6/7, or so says a little birdie

Xii (Xii), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

That little birdie being the Insound release schedule page.

Xii (Xii), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

Is it only a vinyl thing? If so, can someone post the Nate Dogg track for the turntable-less?

On a Strict El Cholo Diet (Bent Over at the Arclight), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

i have little experience of yousendit. is it always, er, broken? because i got 29% through that and it stopped dead. next try: 2%.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

hmm. seems to be working now. oh, the joy and misery of modern tech. thank you, anyway, xii.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

is it vinyl only? the label sent it to me on cd.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

I love this cover. Kinda makes me wish they would do a whole disc of unlikely covers. Though I still need to hear the Nate Dogg one, I guess.

On a Strict El Cholo Diet (Bent Over at the Arclight), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

It's CD too. I was wrong.

Telephonething, Wednesday, 4 May 2005 22:07 (twenty years ago)

I have a personal rule about uploading entire releases. I liked the Mag Fields cover, so that's the one I posted. One track is sharing, two's a crowd. Or something like that.

Xii (Xii), Thursday, 5 May 2005 04:46 (twenty years ago)

they totally make up the lyrics, don't they? sort've reminds me of the weatherell remix of mbv's "soon" or saint etienne's cover of "kiss & make up".

one month passes...
Listening to this and a couple of other !!! tracks lying on Nice beach last week proved a bit of a revelation. I thought of it as late night urban music but I was wrong.

haven't heard the Fields' cover, but it seems to me like !!! would be the perfect band to do it.

a Side-walkin' Street Wheeler (aaron ef.), Friday, 10 June 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

That was pretty much the scene, except for the pebbles.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 10 June 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

come to benicassim and you can dance to the live version near a beach!

re: Kevin Shields and:
I just meant the drums his material tends to have.

I would find it difficult to generalize about My Bloody Valentine drums/drumming.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 10 June 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

I retract any and all statements involving the words Kevin Shields and drums. I'd rather this thread was about the amazing cover and not the words of someone who isn't a professional writer at 1am.
