Heard it at a record store several years ago, I believe it was given a fairly recent vinyl reissue (don't know the label though). It's 50s or 60s and he's fucked up, says all kinds of hilarious stuff and at one point gets a joint out of his guitar case. I believe it was taped for a TV show. Anyway, it's really good, and I've had no luck so far. Anyone help?

I've been into Johnny lately, esp. the crazy novelty shit like "Chicken in Black" and "Look at Them Beans," but I can't ID this. I e-mailed my buddy here in Nashville, he's pretty expert on Johnny. Maybe he can tell me, this sounds like something I need to know too.

Baron of Love, eh? Get in here before this stuff coagulates and all? Sounds like you might know your Ross Johnson, do you know his single from about ten years ago, "Nudist Camp"? Pretty damned funny.

Sounds like Live at San Quintin, maybe?

On 'San Quentin' he says something like "You know that little black bag where I got all my pills . . . "

the crazy novelty shit
see also: "Straight A's in Love" "One Piece at a Time"

neither of which are all that crazy, but still.

Not that this will help, as I haven't heard them, but Sundazed released a couple of vinyl LPs based on 1950s TV tapings a few years ago. Live at Town Hall Party 1958, and 1959. No sound samples, though.

great: "From Sea to Shining Sea," with "The Whirl and the Suck" and "The Frozen Four Hundred Pound Fair to Middlin' Cotton Picker." I was always a bit ambivalent about Cash, but once I heard "Chicken in Black," his greatest song I think, I got the message real quick.

I'm pretty sure it was one of these! Thanks!
