so, certified bananas - i've been enjoying their monthly mixes a fair bit, and thought some of you might like a heads up. heavy on the jokey dilletante/amateurist (not you, dude!) grime/crunk/indie/mashup hollertronix-esque aesthetic that i know rubs some of the rap purists the wrong way, but the best bits are still really fun, even in their sloppiness (april's 'float on' screwed & chopped fr'instance sounds genuinely great, i think - they get the drum stutter just right).

cb always come correct son those mixes are the heat.. word, can we make it a law that hip-hop blogs only post MP3s so they don't all repeat the same tired Dutty South platitudes as one another? k thx bye

"tired Dutty South platitudes"?

I agree that some blogs go overboard with the slang, but "just mp3's no talking"? fuck y'all, you can download all you want and not read the accompnanying text if you prefer, but for a lot of us it's an opportunity to WRITE about music and not just be part of the filesharing clusterfuck.

does anyone really enjoy semi-ironic rock/hiphop mash-ups? is there such thing as a "good one" w/ repeat listening value or are they pure novelty? i'll admit to getting a kick out of them sometimes. that said, i tried my hand at a few last summer (being a home-recording "hobbyist") which i think are pretty sweeeeet, and i'd be THRILLED if anyone else listened to them. for your consideration there's a: Wu/Heart, Sean Paul/PM Dawn/Spandau Ballet, Jay-Z/Aerosmith & 2 Live Crew/Doors.

I admit there is a fine line between the irony and the 'mash-up' type arena, and CB ride that line, less so than like, DJ Ayres, Catchdubs, and the fucking amazing new DJ Caps & Jones mix.

That screwed and chopped float on track is conceptually brilliant, yet it lasted about 3 hours too fucking long.

I have liked some of their tracks, although not as single hits. I'll keep checking for bangers though.
