Why was I not told about this?

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

After the whole gay marriage thing we've decided to be very careful about what Canadians can have an impact on our culture. Sloan was voted off the island along with Shania Twain and Pamela Anderson. :(

Yet Hot Hot Heat remains?

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I only have a couple Sloan albums, the first and the third. Anthony thinks highly of the 2nd so I was gonna check that out when the reissues drop but maybe I should just go for the GH?

SLOAN FUCKING ROOOOOOOOLS.

The GH is okay. Decent, even. But the latter career stuff isn't quite as interesting.

It's missing 'False Alarm' and 'Fade Away' from the last album otherwise it does a decent job of Pretty Together and Between The Bridges. I suppose those two aren't singles.

It is however missing the best single, 'Same Old Flame' (b/w Stood Up), and CFNY stable 'G Turns To D'.

Get both! Only 'Coax Me' and 'People Of The Sky' are from Twice Removed. That leaves 'Snowsuit Sound', 'Deeper Then Beauty' and 'I Hate My Generation'.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah the GH, while worthwhile, doesn't make Twice Removed less crucial. "Bells On," "I Can Feel It," the three already mentioned, more.

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 5 May 2005 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Can we have a DVD track listing?

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Thursday, 5 May 2005 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I love Twice Removed but "People of the Sky" is a pretty crappy song, so it's inclusion on the GH is a little confusing to me. "Bells On" should've gone on instead, for sure.

JAS, Thursday, 5 May 2005 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah "People Of The Sky" is not one of my faves.

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 5 May 2005 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

immediate glaring omission: Chester the Molester

glad The Rest Of My Life made it, I'll always have time for that song

It was a single, so it's on there. I agree that there are better songs on Twice Removed, but then again I often question their selection of singles ("500 Up" over "Sugartune"? "Laying Blame" as a b-side?). The DVD appears to have all the videos, plus 14 TV appearances and backstage footage (which sounds pretty jam-packed to me).

miccio OTM re: Twice Removed's crucial-ness, Rufus OTM re: "Same Old Flame"

OB Lad - Looking at another site I see it's a singles collection; was looking at the subject line and missed the references to singles upthread.

Still amazing that that song wound up on a single, considering how crappy it is. Wonder if it had to do with the democractic songwriting/singing system they have?

JAS, Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I had to doublecheck that it was a singles comp not a greatest hits as well. I would guess that it was Andrew's turn or something, as far as picking "People of the Sky" as a single. Now that I think about it, he wrote "500 Up" too, so maybe they really thought it was the best choice -- I think any of the songs already mentioned would have been better bets. Well, maybe not "Deeper Than Beauty", amazing though it is, since it only features half the band.

Oblivious Lad. (Oblivious Lad), Thursday, 5 May 2005 04:00 (twenty-one years ago)

"ppl of the sky" was a grower for me, and nearly 10 years later, i kinda dig it. still woulda thought "i hate my generation" to be a more obv representative for Twice Removed. truly, after that album i kinda stopped paying attention to the band, so the rest of the songs on this package, at least i think, nicely sum up the latter part of their career.

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Thursday, 5 May 2005 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Admittedly I am a huge Sloan fan, but I can fake objectivity long enough to say that you should really get One Chord to Another. It's probably their best album, and the three singles (while excellent and representative) just aren't enough.

What's the difference? "People of the Sky" got a lot of videoplay here in Canada in the fall of 1994, so I guess to those of us in Canada it would've made no sense whatsoever to exclude it on whatever basis you use for compiling a career retrospective.

Vic Funk, Thursday, 5 May 2005 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

WHAT?!?!? WHAT?!?!?!? WHEN?!?!? HOW CAN I GET ONE?!?!/

Will I have to fly to Canadia to buy one?

Lapdog Shoesnog (kate), Thursday, 5 May 2005 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I've noted this else where but I still can't fathom how "False Alarm" wasn't a single.

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 5 May 2005 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

So apparently there is a documentary or something on the DVD and I've heard comments about videos. Maybe I won't have to find a vcr for my Second Hand Views tape afterall.

I really wish they'd include Rhodes Jam, Same Old Flame, Stove/Smother on SOMETHING new. Or even the party album.
