Only recently discovered Margerine Eclipse due to discussion elsewhere on this borad and seconding the enthusiasm for it. They sound pretty revitalized on that one!

Full disclosure— despite loving them since the time of Transient and thinking Dots and Loops was their masterpiece, Cobra seemed like a retread to me and I stopped following them as I massively started to get into jazz at the turn of the millennium.

I quite like Margerine but Sound-Dust, which preceded it, is gorgeous, sometimes my favorite Stereolab.
I would not destroy anything, although Fab Four Suture has always felt a little sterile to me.

As a stereolab dilletante I have to admit nothing has ever surpassed Brakhage imo

I still remember hearing it over the airwaves from my old college radio station and thinking what the heck is this this fucking rules

Recently became convinced that ME is their masterpiece. Even wrote a little review: https://rateyourmusic.com/music-review/acoleuthic/stereolab/margerine-eclipse/260650902

Search it all. Destroy nothing.

i . . . kinda agree, and can't even imagine what other act i would say that about

"brakhage" is their very best yeah
― ufo, Saturday, 9 August 2025 05:24 (eight months ago)
It’s one of my favorite songs of theirs yes.
― Black Sabaoth (Boring, Maryland), Saturday, 9 August 2025 12:35 (eight months ago)
I don’t think it’s their first masterpiece, but I would absolutely rate it among their best. They never got as personal with the lyrics before or since.

“It” being Margerine Eclipse.
This song devastated me the first couple times I listened to it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWXkgpz7_48

“Sudden Stars” has made me tear up on more than one occasion

Not much I'd destroy, the track I'd recommend today is "Spacemoth".

s: “Les Aimies Des Memes”
it just oozes atmosphere and I love that haunting outro

"Brakhage" is certainly what got me back on the wagon after ETK had been the first Stereolab longplayer I didn't initially bother with. Totally feels like a high point of some sort.
