this is where you get me into rock

i've been listening to some rock lately in a scattershot way, but since i'm a total n00b (read: corny rap fuck) i've got no clue where to go next. is this it and white blood cells started me off, so i guess i could logically get elephant or room on fire next and be pretty satisfied. but i have them already but want more stuff. just not carbon copies of those guys, not bravery of kaiser chiefs or any of these guys. i think i basically need to do my rock homework throught the decades.

i also really like the TVOTR i've heard (young liars and the album), and the first hot rocks album sounded pretty great on first listen. that's about the end of it so far, though i'm still on the fence about "london calling" -- just waiting for it to click. i dont like it when they go into pub-punk-rock mode. its boring.

what's next, these beatles guys? stooges? PIL? something else i haven't heard of? what are the best bowie or fab four or stones-related things i should keep an eye out for? SCHOOL ME!

Machine Gun by Peter Brotzmann - best rock album ever and Wizzard's Brew's mirror image.

"is this it and white blood cells started me off,"

Further evidence of the theory that White Stripes are the rock band that people who listen to rap like.

If you like them, you might like Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath -- for the former I'd go with Led Zeppelin II or maybe Houses of the Holy, and the latter, Paranoid, of course.

Is this a joke? But yes, do go listen to BIG BLACK. I think I will do that myself, right now.

Is this a joke?

An all too successful one, I think.

newb, since yer a self-described "corny rap fuXor," i'm kinda surprised that yer finding it hard to get into the clash and clash-related side projects (or at least london calling). it's been my experience that the clash is VERY rap friendly -- same beats, less bling -- but what do i know? :-)
