Why isn't everyone going bonkers over TTC?

After getting a track from a blog (good ol' fluxblog) i got the album (Batards Sensibles) and think its amazing!

The most exciting hip-hop i've heard in a while. The originality and wit of cLOUDDEAD with amazing boucy and bleepy beats (like Anti-pop consortium but better)

There wasn't a thread on them so i'm starting one...anyone wanna share the love or have anymore info on these guys?

Mr Monket (apn99), Friday, 6 May 2005 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm kind of into this. Not as much as you but a decent amount. I have the cd with the bonus disc of instrumental tracks, some of which stand up pretty well by themselves and the design of the whole package is awesome with the cut out glasses on the front showing the silver of the cd inside.

I'd really like to know how the lyrics stand up. I dont speak any french so I'm not sure if they are up to the standard of some of the anticon stuff. any idea?

Fave track so far - Latest dance craze.

hmmm (hmmm), Friday, 6 May 2005 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

r.i.p. indie rap

rizzx (rizzx), Friday, 6 May 2005 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

the first album, Ceci N’est Pas Un Disque is also excellent, (but, NB, much less electronic)

zebedee (zebedee), Friday, 6 May 2005 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Because they're French. Zing.

Pasty, Friday, 6 May 2005 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I pretty much think it's amazing too. That led to my recommendation to Matthew, and thus your downloading the track and then buying the album.

You're welcome.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 6 May 2005 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know what it is, but i don't consider TTC indie rap. probably because some of their lyrics are quite filthy; run Rap Jeu through babelfish if you're still wondering.

Batards Sensibles is fucking ace album though, one of my favourite discoveries of this year, fo' shure.

Grell (Grell), Friday, 6 May 2005 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

nine months pass...
INSANE album. i can't believe how good it is.

currently my favorite song is "J'ai pas sommeil" (just skip to the 1 minute mark)

and Dans Le Club is epic.

Guy Incognito (Guy Incognito), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:10 (twenty years ago)

"Dans Le Club" was pretty awesome, yeah.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:15 (twenty years ago)

could anyone YSI some other stuff from the guys who produced this (Para One, Tacteel)?

I've tried slsking for it but with lttle success.. I found a Para One track called Clubhoppn, and it's good, in the vein of the TTC album just with a higher bpm. how much more is there? I'd love to hear it..

also i heard the Modeselektor track with TTC, "Dancingbox". it's all chopped up and great, even though i don't understand a thing. i can yousendit if anyone wants it.

Guy Incognito (Guy Incognito), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:22 (twenty years ago)

dancingbox is great

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:44 (twenty years ago)

They've got a new album coming out this summer, on Big Dada i think. And if anyone's interested I can YSI Cuizinier's solo mixtape (later tonight when I finish with class/work, also the Eric & Thomas mixtape in VBR for the "beardo house" thread).

telephone thing, Monday, 6 February 2006 19:24 (twenty years ago)

Party cuts a la Dans le Club are cool but a lot of the time their MCs are so good at being purposefully annoying, you want to throw whatever's playing them out the window after three or four tracks.

I was assigned a small feature on Tacteel recently but it's in French, or German. Here's a copy of the page
http://www.partynews.ch/magazine/119/fr/pdf/16.pdf
Seems I also used the Antipop reference to anchor a lazy description of TTC. Figured, there's an indie mainstream reference most readers will get.

So these guys drop edits, chopped mixtapes, mashups all over the place. From hip hop gone micro to electroclash chopped & screwed, it's anything-goes acid grime with lurid, trollish French lyrics. They're sleazy backpackers. They're noise.

Do search for Cuizinier's mix series and Tacteel's stuff, like the release discussed in the above link. Para One solo I hardly know but must be equally good - the hit-or-miss variety of good that is.
I don't like it but TTC's first album Ceci N'est Pas Un Disque was a freaky milestone of sorts within US-autonomous but really musically conservative French hip hop. So that's a good thing

blunt (blunt), Monday, 6 February 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Yes, please.

Tacteel has two new great EPs, one on Institubes and the other on Villa Magica/Mental Groove

www.institubes.com
www.myspace.com/tacteel

Para One has just finished a remix of "The Prime Time of Your Life" that'll be on the japanese version of Human After All.

If you actually need a kind of panorama of the new Paris scene, there's a very nice collection of 7" released on the Arcade Mode label, with stuff by Para and Tacteel but also by Feadz, Sebastian, Orgasmic, Aysam, etc.

Cuizinier:

is just about to drop his 2nd mixtape.

just become myspace friends with them, they announce updated shit all the time.

ryan caskie (Fita), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 17:02 (twenty years ago)

i don't think so so krispie was the best choice.

"And if anyone's interested I can YSI Cuizinier's solo mixtape (later tonight when I finish with class/work)"

Me too please, thanks!

looking forward to those futuristic beats on the 2nd TTC album!

Mr Monket (apn99), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 17:18 (twenty years ago)

Cuizi's mixtape is awesome, almost every track is a highlight. It includes freestyling over "Right Here" and "Oh" (basically reproducing Ludacris' verse in french) and samples of Lenny Kravitz and Camp Lo.

Etienne Menu (Etienne), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 17:26 (twenty years ago)

i'm kinda still hoping you're going to upload this, telephone thing

TTC gets much love when I DJ it in Montreal (go figure), even from the Anglos...

Any thoughts on Teki Latex' new single, "Disco Dance With You"? Produced by Gonzales, and sounds more like Chromeo than anything else. I'm not so sure about it, though I love the wonderfully daft lyrics (and the inexplicable slip into Italian about halfway through).

And I still have mp3s of Pour Les Filles, and now Pour Les Filles vol. 2 if anyone would like it to SUDDENLY AND MAGICALLY APPEAR in their inbox THROUGH NO IMMEDIATELY APPARENT HUMAN AGENCY and CERTAINLY NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS BOARD. 192kbps only to keep the filesize manageable, I'm afraid, but hey, it's free, right?

Telephonething (Telephonething), Thursday, 28 September 2006 00:11 (nineteen years ago)

Oh haha holy shit "Electronic." Amazing super-autotuned cheesefest, sounds even more like Chromeo (whether this is a good or bad thing is left as an exercise for the reader). I think I'm coming around to this.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Thursday, 28 September 2006 00:18 (nineteen years ago)

i love teki and 'disco dance with you.' those are my thoughts.

theghostrobot (theghostrobot), Thursday, 28 September 2006 05:01 (nineteen years ago)

No one mentioned l'Atelier yet? The album "Buffet des anciens élèves" is pretty good, some really great tracks like "Le hip-hop c'est mon pote" and some instrumentals by Para-one and Tacteel (and many others.) Another related band is Super Famille Conne but I haven't heard anything by them.

"Bâtards Sensibles" is very good musically but lyrically this is another story. These guys are definitely smart yet they write like they are the lowliest racailles (sorry but I don't know what would be the English equivalent of that term; if you understand TTC's lyrics then you should know what this means) which is really a bummer. But Teki is still incredible.

it took a few years, but damn.
