charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 19 May 2005 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

mr.lido, aren't you committed to seeing the blood arm at the bethnal green working men's club tonight?

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 19 May 2005 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

yes

not sure about that either at the minute. depends what happens at work today

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 19 May 2005 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

hey julio!

can't make the Necks tonight as i am superbroke but have already booked my ticket for Gira (pity it's at ULU whatta shithole) and will def. def. go to see Otomo on the 30th (pity it's at the Spitz whatta shithole) - see you there

Andrew J L, Thursday, 19 May 2005 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

hey andrew! don't know whether I'll be at ULU but should be there for otomo. see you soon...

The necks were hard to peg down to anything in particurlar - a good thing - at times its an ecm album I've never heard, at other its palestine's maximalist take on minimalism (and too un-subtle for mere minimalism), and yet at others they build up and to something and come down again AND yet and yet...its quite a conception.

having said that cerberus shoal wz the best support I've seen in a long time - and when they intended to be quite funny they were just that. After their set i wouldn't have minded if they were the main act.

zaum turned up when the audience were at their talkative worst: starting yr last number with a 'lyrical' type solo was never going to go down too well. Too scattered, too written and if there was more improvisation and dada some of those ppl might have fucked off for a while but they could not respond to that audience.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 20 May 2005 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

what were cerberus shoal like julio? its a a while since ive heard them, and they are reasonbly prolific

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 20 May 2005 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

they performed a cpl of numbers: the first started off xmassy, went off in this (or what i imagine it to be as I've not heard enough) french chanteuse 'chamber pop' tangent (w/snake-like gtr) (I knew why you might have liked them when the accordion was picked up) with 'glam' drumming at times to catch anyone unawares. the second piece had the 'funny' dynamic: one vocalist went off the stage and started ranting/singing while walking among the audience, the other used her brush to dust off some members of the audience: a flute solo followed that.

don't know if that helps -- I'll prob track down a rec or two.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 20 May 2005 10:28 (twenty-one years ago)

The Fall on monday, rescheduled from 30/4 and Madredeus next friday - i need to find a +1 for that one.

leigh (leigh), Friday, 20 May 2005 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I am hella excited.

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 20 May 2005 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 20 May 2005 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Just found out that the doors for The Fall are 9pm, on a school night. Guess i'd better ask for some leave for Tuesday.

leigh (leigh), Friday, 20 May 2005 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)
