has anyone seen Wanda Jackson live in recent years?

she's coming at the end of the month, playing a very small club in my neighbourhood, so I'm kind of looking forward to it... but I'm always a little wary of going to see the nore seriously senior types, it's a little heartbreaking from time to time - on the other hand, sometimes it's The Best. pls. advise.

I saw her maybe 5 years ago? It was good. Probably depends a lot on who's in the backing band. When I saw her, Rosie Flores was playing the lead guitar, and she's very good. Wanda sang mostly her old hits, told stories about Elvis, and ended with a gospel tune. Still pretty lively, shaking around on stage and all that. Not the Best Show Ever, but very far from a heartbreaking experience, too.

I'd read that the Cadillac Lounge shows in Toronto were sold out (if that's the one yer talking about), but I could be wrong.

Concurrence. She still does credible versions of her hits, assorted covers, always tells how she dated Elvis and also always testifies that she is now born-again.

Yep. I saw her 2 years ago at Maxwells. Love her.

when I saw her she was ostensibly opening for Jerry Lee Lewis but it got really really late and he never came out! I still don't know if he ever wound up playing that night. She was better than he would have been anyway.

She was awesome, well worth elbowing through the throng to stand in front of the stage. Her keyboard player is ESPN's Peter Gammons with a Crayola-brown dye job.

Sounding a bit chipmunky on Letterman recently, but the new album seems awesome so far. Rockabilly, calypso, various ingredients I associate with New Orleans, blues, gospel, a very appropriate down-home surrealism slipping through, but not overly reliant on novelty. Catch it while it's still streaming here: http://www.npr.org/2011/01/16/132289971/first-listen-wanda-jackson-the-party-aint-over

We saw her last night. She's a little slower and still recovering from knee/hip replacement, but her voice is solid and her band totally capable and respectful. Seeing her perform live is a life-affirming priviledge.
