No, go ahead and click on that. You can read testimonies about the nauseous pregnant woman who was able to keep down some delicious Smokey Robinson Gumbo. Just keep your speakers down if you don't want the entire office to be infected with a loop of "Shop Around" for the rest of the day.

What other musicians have you seen in the supermarket? There's Jimmy Dean, of course, hawking his sausage. George Jones now has his sausage available throughout the South. Would you buy a certain food item just because it had a musician's face on it? And, what artists should have their own food for sale? When I clicked over here to ask this question, the thread on top was C/D: Supertramp: Breakfast In America which I thought was kinda funny.

God help us if the Black Eyed Peas ever start selling black eyed peas.

I saw one of the Ramones in Balducci's once, though I don't know if that counts.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 6 May 2005 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I like how Smokey dated his signature up there.

I saw Jack Natz (ex-Virus/Undead/BlackSnake/Cop $hoot Cop/Crux/Lubricated Goat) at my local deli a couple of months back.

That's not a signature, that's the expiration date for the gumbo.

miccio (miccio), Friday, 6 May 2005 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

smokey robinson is like the last soul music star i'd expect to market a brand of GUMBO. smokey robinson ice cream would make more sense. i'd totally be down for some AL GREEN GRITS.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Friday, 6 May 2005 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Friday, 6 May 2005 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

"Collard greens? That doesn't make sense."

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Friday, 6 May 2005 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Well Al Green probably can't stomach grits any more.

When Morten Harket is travelling, there is one thing he always brings – bread. Not just any kind of bread, but the bread he says he can’t live without; his girlfriend Anne Mette’s home made bread. Now Morten is thinking about the possibilities of producing and selling this bread on a larger scale.

Anne Mette’s bread is made without wheat; she uses spelt flour, which Morten calls “the original flour” and the dough has to rise three times.

The Norwegian newspaper VG has published an article about Morten’s bread plans. “The way this bread is made is the result of many funny experiments,” Morten tells VG. “The need was to find a simple and good bread that could serve as a basis in any meal,” he says, “and that is simply Anne Mette’s spelt bread.”

Morten has not eaten wheat or potatoes since the recording of the ‘Summer Moved On’ video four years ago. “The effect of not eating wheat was very explicit,” he says. “I had felt slack and sleepy a lot. I thought it was stress, but I didn’t think about my diet.” One of Norway’s largest bakeries contacted Morten after reading about the bread that Morten brought with him on tour. And soon we all might have a taste of Morten and Anne Mette’s bread.

I can vouch for the Possum's sausage biscuits--they're mighty good.

I was thrilled to be behind Sarah Cannon (Minnie Pearl) at Kroger in Belle Meade in Nashville, some years ago. She was dressed really nice, no pricetags visible anywhere.

I once ran into Keiji Haino in my corner liquor store- but I lived in the Tenderloin a block away from the Great American Music Hall and Fushitsusha was playing that night- but I didn't know that at the time and just went down there for some snacks and saw him and went "holy shit, that's Keiji fuckin' Haino oh my god".

The only person I've gone up to to be a dorky fanboy to in a supermarket was Avital Ronell.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Saturday, 7 May 2005 06:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Saturday, 7 May 2005 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The Sundays in the produce aisle. "And it's you and me in the summertime..."

Citizen King in the checkout line.

Scapegoat Wax in aisle ten.

David Yow used to manage a Dominick's grocery store in Chicago, which is a thing of unspeakable beauty.

Mike Dixn (Mike Dixon), Saturday, 7 May 2005 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I absolutely love the Morten bread story, read that before. Man's a god still (and looks great!).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 May 2005 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Eric Adams from Manowar used to slice deli meat at the supermarket in my small town upstate. He tucked his mane under a white painter's cap and wore glasses.
