Discreet Music - S/D, C/D

Related to the Schlocky AOR "Soft" Rock: Destroy or Annihilate thread....

Is Discreet Music better - is it any different? I like it because depending upon how loud you have it, you can hear ambient, "musique concrete" from your own surroundings. Your mind fills in the parts that are too quiet to hear - so you hear something different every time. Come to think of it, it's completely different from schlock. But some may disagree (and I know they have in the past) - so: Search or Destroy....

I like it - it sounds good on headphones, and I like the fact that it stays the same all the way through and yet doesn't.I'd like to try it at its original speed though - at first it was just supposed to be a backdrop for Fripp IIRC,and Eno slooooowed it down by half.

I never got into it. In terms of noise volume the opposite to Metal Machine Music. It is supposed to be one of the classical minimal music albums. All right for a nap. Usually the Pachelbel at the end wakes me up.

five years pass...

Discreet Music is fantastic. It's interesting to think about how it sounds at different volumes. I've tried to play it at a low volume level a few times, but I inevitably turn it up after about 2 minutes in.

Might be my favorite Eno.

It's my favourite 'true ambient' Eno, but I think I still prefer Another Green World overall.

Taking Tiger Mountain gets my vote, but DM is GREAT while writing.

I hate to say it, but RDJ totally jacked the first track for SAWII and he did it better.

As far as Eno ambience goes, I think Shutov Assembly is very under rated.

Have any of you guys heard his new ambient material? I have heard good things, but I haven't taken the time to find out.
