TV Eye by The Stooges is the greatest song ever this week.

I can't think of anything more rock and roll than that scream at the start "looooooooooooooooooord". And the riff it's built around is also pretty fantastic. I could use words like "visceral", but why bother.

Anyway what other "looooooooooooooord" split seconds grab you. I'm talking about "ROCK" examples here so none of your sissy when doves cryisms.

No you can include them if you want but preferably rock grunting and screaming which appeals to you is what I'm looking for.

new they should play the stooges at raves answers.

Actually yes, other rock songs that would be amazing in the middle of a dance set.

Well, I just referred to it on the S.O.D. thread, but hearing Billy Milano yell "LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIST!" is pretty damn great.

Rock songs in rave sets -- well, my friend Ben concluded a megahardcore dark techno set with Gene Simmons' cover of "When You Wish Upon a Star." Though that might not be very rock.

Eye's scream at the beginning of "Super Going," which gets chopped up and fades out very slowly as the song gets rolling (if you really listen very carefully, you can still hear the scream very low in the mix more than a minute in!)

the Ewan McGregor does TV Eye on the soundtrack of Velvet Goldmine is surprisingly brilliant. admittedly it does have one of the Ashetons on guitar.

On one of the last nights in the Funnel one of the DJs went rock music mad, playing a succession of Thin Lizzy tracks to an increasingly bemused "friendly" crowd.

a new example of this moment for me is the new trail of dead record's song "days of being wild" opening second where the lead singer goes "yeah!" after the end of a slower song leading straight into this barnburner of a rock song.

todd burns, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"barnburner". I'm DEFINITELY using that one.

I should probably buy Trail of Deads album when it comes out. I really liked the last one.

Now I'll say the scream in "Won't Get Fooled Again" before anyone else can - but fuckit if it ain't TV Eye.

I'm a sucker for anytime the singer outsings the microphone, as in these examples...

Ian Curtis - the Still version of Means to an End... "I PUT MY TRUST IN YOU" - First time I heard that - Man, I felt sorry for whomever it was directed.

I'm not a fan of the Doors, but I recently saw a clip of them on Ed Sullivan - The distortion in the vocals is (can't think of a good word) awesome.

But again - it all comes back to Iggy Pop; Down on the Street,. . "no WALL. no WALL. no WALL."

The scream at the end of Whatever by Husker Du. Sounds like hes doing it well strangling the life out of a camel or small pony.

Not quite a scream, but on Six by Seven's "My Life Is An Accident", the second time Chris Olley yells 'THE CLOSER YOU GET' the 'GET' sounds like he's forcing every last iota of air out of his lungs.

Pretty much a scream, the second track of the Liars cd, he yells "Do the twist!" right off the bat. Pretty effective. some synthetic handclapping sounds carry the rest of the song into a dancable groove. I love it.

Lydia Lunch lets loose with a really great scream at the beginning of the live album The Agony Is the Ecstasy--the one with the Birthday Party's Drunk On the Pope's Blood on the other side. There's a minute or so of very slow, plodding, amateurish droney stuff before she screams and when she does it's *so* funny. Death rock at its most sidesplitting.

"Transmission," Ian Curtis: "DAAAAAANCE!!!" Sends chills up my spine every time I hear it.

Clarke B., Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

And it ties in with the title of the thread, seeing as Ian C. lurved his Iggy.

The scweam in "Frankie Teardrop"

There are lots of very rock James Brown examples, but my favorite today is in "Tell Me That You Love Me," the B-side of "Don't Be A Drop-Out." The lyric, in its entirety, goes "Tell me do you love me/Tell me do you care/Would you let me hold you/Take you anywhere/I wanna love you/Tell me do you care/EEEEEEEYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH/ EEEEEEEYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH/ EEEEEEEYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH/ EEEEEEEYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH etc.

Last night I went to Spa and it was kind of weird, but the DJs were good and they played "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and it ROCKED coming out of the huge system. (more rock songs at raves)
