a few octaves?

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 9 May 2005 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

A concept developed by Dj Technics?

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 9 May 2005 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently DJ Screw is alive and well, and totally unoriginal when it comes to making up a new moniker.

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Monday, 9 May 2005 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

funny, I've never heard it/heard of it. what I love about club music is the high energy and high tempo, so I dunno if this could be anything more than a novelty to me, but I'd be curious to hear some.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 9 May 2005 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

also it seems to me kind of disingenuous to slap the word "crunk" on this (although maybe 80% of the hip hop samples on current club tracks are from crunk records)

Al (sitcom), Monday, 9 May 2005 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

If you need to know whether or not you like Screwed/Chopped stuff, go take a listen to Three Six Mafia's Da Unbreakables S&C or the S&C of David Banner's Mississippi: The Album. If you bought the two disc Mike Jones, the second disc is the first C&S.

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Monday, 9 May 2005 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think the question here is 'OMG what is screwed and chopped?' - this isn't rap, it's a kind of music that (to my knowledge) has never been screwed before.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 9 May 2005 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Ohhhhh...see, I'm completely out of the loop. I didn't even realize that there was a new Urban/dirty/whatever house scene. Okay. Disregard everything I've said here.

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)

hehe it's ok.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, on the upside, its given me something to track down on Limewire. I already tracked down Seward's comparison of the scene to Bob Dylan and have stuff enqueued. hah

I actually ordered Technic's Baltimore Club 7 mix CD and got it in the mail today. "Ordinary People" -> "Where U From" -> "Ride That Thing" (good lord, acid bass!) ->"I'm a Goodman" is like whoa. I mean, the whole thing is like whoa, but that stood out.

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 06:18 (twenty-one years ago)

David, any of those Baltimore Club cd's by Technics worth ordering?

Pearsall, Tuesday, 10 May 2005 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
Hmm sorry I never answered this. But yeah, the ones I've gotten I've liked. I think Al might be more yr go-to guy on the mixes, but I enjoy seven a lot.

Amon (eman), Thursday, 16 June 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

I ordered Volume 4 about 3 weeks ago and it hasn't arrived yet.... grrr...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 16 June 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

i get the feeling he's operating the website store from his home, so maybe the wait is longer than would be typical. they're just burned cd-rs in slim cases. but if it's as good as vol.7 it will definitely be worth the wait. his dj skills are tight, def. the best club mix i've heard so far. i'm curious about the rod lee mixes.

one year passes...
well has any one ever heard of chewed and popped (obvious pun on the houston genre)?!?!

this dude, "chews and pops" the best of pop songs and broadcasts them for free on iTunes: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=136796132.

I think the last episode has songs by Gnarls Brakley and NSYNC, along with some others.

totally trippy. Let me know what you guys think about this.
