one year passes...
Does anyone on ILX actually like Esquivel? It doesn't seem so.

Merry Christmas From The Space-Age Bachelor Pad is pretty great, but it's the only thing I've heard by him. What else is worth getting?

A. Lingbert (A. Lingbert), Saturday, 7 January 2006 23:31 (twenty years ago)

I prefer Esquerita

Redd Harvest (Ken L), Saturday, 7 January 2006 23:31 (twenty years ago)

Everyone should, but many don't. I'm just a fan of early stereo weirdness in general, and Esquivel (at his best) was ultra-weird.

It's actually listening to the Morricone Crime And Dissonance thing that made me crave some Esquivel. Less screeching, maybe.

I have "Other Worlds Other Sounds" and it's good.

Renard (Renard), Saturday, 7 January 2006 23:45 (twenty years ago)

I have an Esquivel album that I like, but I haven't listened to it in years.

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 8 January 2006 01:01 (twenty years ago)

I liked him for a little while - but really only long enough for me to figure out where all those obscure Tape-beatles samples were sourced from...

Myke Weiskopf (Myke Weiskopf), Sunday, 8 January 2006 02:30 (twenty years ago)

I really like him a lot and listen to him pretty often. There's no-one else around who does what he does. Not even close.

eighteen years pass...

“Other worlds, other sounds” is kind of fantastic in the right mood. The world has died so much since then, this sounds like from another dimension.

Also you need to listen to it in a good stereo to really get it.
