Fer fucks sake! They BREAK THE JAWS of any 15 year old girls that won't sleep with them...why don't you buy "Now that's what I call Fred West Vol 1" ?

Gary Glitter's "Rock And Roll Part 2" is a fantastic record. So is "Fuck It".

Toby - being in Australia I haven't heard anything more recent than that (yes, excellent, awesome, peerless) Ayia Napa comp, but if you need something to tide you ever, there's always www.dubplate.net, which offers Windows Media Player files of all the great new tunes.

Update: just checked out the tracklisting for "Fuck It", and it looks fantabulous - those guys have excellent taste. Very heavy on the darker end of the scene, but gratifyingly light on breakbeats = Tim will be very happy if-and-when he finds this.

If you're wondering what recent garage comp NOT to buy, I'd say Pure Garage V: it's not really bad, but it's disappointingly drab and joyless. Too much breakbeat tedium, too much pointless oh-I-guess- this-dark-bassline-will-do stuff. I just can't understand the appeal of Darqwan's 'Pipe Dreams' - it's completely undanceable, and not something I can imagine enjoying listening to (though 'Confused' I like). There's a lotta 4/4 tracks, but most of them unfortunately suck too. Also, a bit TOO much of EZ's crossfader wankery this time.

Still, it's got two new Todd Edwards tracks so I've managed to not regret spending money on it, being the Todd worshipper that I am. But they're not spectacular either.

EZ is the most overrated DJ in garage - a combination of his ill- advised diversity, bad mixing skills, weird choices of records to put together and his own annoying tracks totally ruined Pure Garage 4 for me, despite the presence of a lot of great tracks.

Darwqwan/Oris Jay is weird - some tracks like "Confused", "Nocturnal", the remix of Ladies First's "Messin" etc. are awesome in their mixture of darkness and compulsive danceability, and then some tracks (like "Pipe Dreams" if I recall) just seem to miss the point and veer off into "difficult" abstraction.

Listening to Ayia Napa 2001, I hear how off-the-money Pure Garage IV was at the "nu" sound. It feels very abstract, actually, and cold. But for that reason, a more interesting and "pure" distillation of current trends. On the other hand, hearing a dubaholics track going into DJ's delight and then Summer Jam (as on AN 2001) has a charm of its own, sort of completing the circle or something.
