There's a song Merle & Doc Watson sing ("Mama Don't Like No Music" perhaps? that's the chorus) with a whole washboard solo and I think it's the most brilliant thing ever.

Do you know good music with washboards? Because that's the only song I know and there must be more.

I can't really speak for their goodness, but Chickasaw Mud Puppies were all about the washboard.

Check out Lonnie Donegan, king of English Skiffle Music. From the Guinness Encyclopedia Of Popular Music: "Donegan's music inspired thousands of teenagers to form amateur skiffle combos, with friends playing broomstick tea chest bass, WASHBOARDS and other instruments fashioned from household implements. The Beatles, playing initially as the Quarrymen, were a foremost example of an act traceable to such roots." That's a horrible last sentence, but you get the picture...

Doing a search on Wallasey-born character actor (ok, so it was always the same character) Derek Guyler (sp?) might yield more washboard goodies.

"Oh, Corky!" "Now, come on Hattie..."

Correction: he spelt his first name Deryck. Krayzee!
