... Cuz I saw a second-hand album of theirs (Heart Of Darkness) for quite cheap and vaguely remember them appearing on Tom's albums of the nineties thread.

What do they sound like, are they good and would I like them?

Do not take an appearance on my now very very outdated albums of the 90s thread as any indication of quality Tim!

Heart of Darkness is a very funny record. It has scandalously obvious film samples and the worst rapping EVER and still manages to be quite moody and effective and exciting. My liking for it is probably not transferable though.

Somehow the amateurishness of it makes it all the more alluring. Arguably the last great record to be released by ZTT.

one year passes...
Two mentions on ILM - not to be found at all on Soulseek - blimey they really have slipped through the cracks.

I would really love to hear the Blade Runner track and my CD is in a box somewhere.

I have something by him...but not that album.

I have only ever seen the CD once (& bought it). The vinyl is better cos it doesn't have the HORRENDOUS revision/version of "The Model" on. When I recover it I will make it available.

I remembered hearing and really liking a few tracks back in the day and managed to track it down on mp3 a few months back. However my memories of Bomb Squad style production with dance beats proved to be, well, wrong. I think it's meant to sound kind of menacing, but it's definitely closer to PWEI than PE.

Hung on to it all the same (and have it up on soulseek, if you really want it!), 'Tyrell' is still good fun, obvious samples and all (hell, especially the obvious samples) and 'The Walker' is actually pretty decent apart from the appalling if amusing rap - "We're going out tonight in her Mercedes Benz..."

Hoodlum Priest. grief. this was ZTT follow on from the faliure of Nasty Rox Inc attempt at fusing dance and rock. HP were connected to AOC (same producers - howard gray) and ripped a fair bit from their sound, (in fact HP named an ep Beneath the Pavements a la AOC early EP) as did PWEI.
also Hoodlum Priest went on to release some other stuff that was primarily solo music and lost a lot of the edge of the earlier stuff (others went onto @440) - the last thing i actually heard was a Hoodlum Priest remix of a PWEI track that was on their epic remix album ..
once saw a more recent album and heard a few tracks in the shop but was pretty poor. but Heart of Darkness is a bit of late 80's noise/dance/pop fun. cliched movie samples in exclesis.
now . if anyoine see the Nasty Rox Inc album on cd i would be Very Interested .. (this is top of my Wish List and has been for years ..)

been a long time since i listened to this stuff.
i actually picked up the last album when i saw it cheap, but don't think i have ever listened to it all the way through.
all i can recall re beneath .. is the track that features an engine revving all the way through.
in fact, isn't thats all it is for about 5 minutes ?

2 hour radio show that hoodlum priest recently broadcast.
contains a lot of unreleased hoodlum priest material, along with other bits-n-pieces.
advertised as a ambient/drone set but there are sections which are anything but ambient.
