Curiosity Redux Thread

Thought is best to start an individual thread, as the Reissues thread is way long and should be kept on that topic really.

So, a quick update and a couple of wee questions.

So far...

Meathook - Marquee 79
AM/In Your House (early) - Birmingham 79
10:15 Sat Night - Paris 80
Another Day - Stockholm 80
Primary (yellow) - Rennes 80
I'm Cold - Rennes 80
Do You Wanna Touch? - Rennes 80 or unspecified 85
Fire In Cairo - Werchter 81
The Holy Hour - Werchter 81
Charlotte Sometimes (early version) - Sydney 81
Forever - Sydney 81
A Short Term Effect - Paris 82 or Glasgow 82
Pornography - Paris 82
Lament - Elephant Fayre 83
Bananafishbones - s'Hertogenbosch 84
Bird Mad Girl - s'Hertogenbosch 84
Secrets - Washington 84
Happy The Man - Washington 84
Caterpillar - Washington 84
Wailing Wall - Washington 84
The Hanging Garden - Ludwigshafen 85
Screw - Ludwigshafen 85
The Baby Screams - Camden Palace 85
A Night Like This - Camden Palace 85 or Glastonbury 86
Push - Glastonbury 86
The Blood - Houston 86
Torture - Birmingham 87
A Japanese Dream - Birmingham 87
Snakepit - Birmingham 87

This is where I'm up to in the mastering, should take me another week or so to do 87-04, I've been really geeked out on Cure, but it's enjoyable.

So, any more KM-KM-KM era? Catch/Like Cockatoos/If Tonight.../Why Can't I Be You/Hot Hot Hot/Just Like Heaven??

I've been leaning heavily on The Top era and Head On The Door mainly because these aren't really represented much in the live albums (plus they sound so great, The Blood for instance is just fantastic) which means I'm not too sure which Disintegration and Wish tracks to go for because these are featured heavily on Show/Entreat obv.

Also, I was planning to crossfade the tracks to make it sound almost seamless like any live album, anyone have a reason not to do this, apart from I-Pod grumbles?

It's going to be 4 CD's I think, a box set, Yo!

Any suggestions welcome.

mzui (mzui), Friday, 13 May 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

Er...keep doing what you're doing as I trust your judgment? :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 14 May 2005 01:17 (twenty years ago)

I'm rather excited about this.

Any news mzui?

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 26 May 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

Indeed, I'll have the finished tracklist done for the weekend or early next week, and once I do (a kind hearted ILX'r) will be getting the artwork together and I'll get it printed up and then we will be good to go.

Found a CD of a drunken Cure around a hotel piano playing silly versions of some songs but the quality is a bit meh, I might put one track in somewhere as a hidden bonus.

M.

mzui (mzui), Thursday, 26 May 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

Argh, I had such high hopes of getting a finished tracklist up on ILM before I go on holiday.

Ah well then, apologies all round, I'll be back at work in 10 days or so then I promise I'll put a lid on this soon after.

mzui (mzui), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

you are still a golden god!

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Yes yes! :-) I await happily, including the drunk performance or even a bit of one.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

You are so awesome.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
Righty-Ho,

This week is hopefully when I finally finish the masters.

I'm nearly done with the tracklist, been waiting for a few upgrades of certain shows which I've managed to get and am really happy with the quality, only the first 26 mins of CD1 is sourced from my tapes and even though it's bootleg quality, I guarantee it's never as bad as Heroin Face!

So, as a taster here is the final, final track list for CD1.

1. Meathook - London 79
2. A.M./In Your House (early version) - Birmingham 79
3. 10:15 Sat Night - Paris 80
4. Another Day - Stockholm 80
5. Primary (yellow/cold colours version) - Rennes 80
6. I'm Cold - Rennes 80
7. Plastic Passion - Amsterdam 80
8. Jumping Someone Else's/Another Journey By Train - Amsterdam 80
9. Fire In Cairo - Werchter 81
10. The Holy Hour - Sydney 81
11. Charlotte Sometimes (early version) - Sydney 81
12. Forever - Sydney 81
13. A Short Term Effect - Paris 82
14. Cold - Paris 82
15. Pornography - Paris 82
16. Lament - Elephant Fayre 83
17. Bananafishbones - s'Hertogenbosch 84
18. Bird Mad Girl - s'Hertogenbosch 84
19. Secrets - Washington 84

Stay tuned for CD's 2/3/4.

mzui (mzui), Monday, 20 June 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

This just looks ridiculously good already. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

Indeed! it's going to be very cool, CD2 will be done tomorrow.

mzui (mzui), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

I really enjoy that whole Washington 84 show. Don't know where I got it, but I am always pleased when it comes up in the shuffle.

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:28 (twenty years ago)

Holy shit. You are the greatest human being on the planet.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

It's a great gig alright, the 84 Cure lineup is aces, Vince Ely and Andy Anderson are very underrated.

mzui (mzui), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

how did i miss this before???

it looks absolutely awesome.

how do i get me one? goddamn.

ummm, how are you on "the kiss" tour? I've barely heard any kmkmkm stuff live, but i bet a load of it is phenomenal, especially when amped up in arena/stadium venues.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

That reminds me, I am still looking for a sponsor I think to burn me a set after the initial dispersal to the lucky (I think that is how it was going to work). I'll obv reimburse shipping and whatnot. Just shoot me an email if you are one of the lucky early getters. Thx.

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

At the moment there are 4 tracks from KMKMKM lined up:

Fight
Torture
A Japanese Dream
Snakepit

I have been thinking about putting more in, 'Like Cockatoos' or 'If Tonight...' fr'instance.

mzui (mzui), Monday, 20 June 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

Put me on for a copy of these, too, please! They look fantastic!

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Monday, 20 June 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

Oooh, if you've got a nice version of "Like Cockatoos"...!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 20 June 2005 22:24 (twenty years ago)

Heheheh. Wouldn't it be nice.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 June 2005 22:24 (twenty years ago)

Oh yes! And another tiny fist in the air in favor of Cuckatoos. It could maybe replace Fight? but, hey, it's yr party...

Maybe we can set up relays for further copies? I'll gladly take care of EU folks.

Die Emanzipation von Baaderonixx (redukt) (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

Here is the final, final tracklist for CD2.

Disc 2.

1. The Walk - Washington 84
2. The Wailing Wall - Washington 84
3. Happy The Man - Washington 84
4. Caterpillar - Washington 84
5. The Hanging Garden - Ludwigshafen 85
6. Screw - Ludwigshafen 85
7. The Baby Screams - London Camden Palace 85
8. A Night Like This - Glastonbury 86
9. Push - Glastonbury 86
10. A Forest - Glastonbury 86
11. Sinking - Glastonbury 86
12. The Blood - Houston 86
13. Torture - Birmingham 87
14. A Japanese Dream - Birmingham 87
15. Like Cockatoos - Santa Barbara 87
16. How Beautiful You Are - Santa Barbara 87
17. The Perfect Girl - Santa Barbara 87
18. Why Can't I Be You? - Santa Barbara 87
19. It's Not You (acoustic) - Bordeaux 89

I ditched Snakepit cause it's really quite a dull (and long) song live, so apologies to any Snakepit fans.

The Glasto 86 tracks are something else, very atmospheric and the
version of The Hanging Garden is awesomely tribal, can't wait for
you all to hear them.

Next is the Disintegration/Wish era which as we all know is quite well represented by live albums, any thoughts welcome as always.

Disc 3 up next week, after Glasto.

mzui (mzui), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

I ditched Snakepit cause it's really quite a dull (and long) song live, so apologies to any Snakepit fans.

*sniffles*

That aside, ay-yi-yi this looks astoundingly great.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

YAY COCKATOOS

for 89-92 stuff just try and pick versions that are the least similar to the released live versions? interesting variations or jams or tags or fuckups?

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 13:49 (twenty years ago)

Wow!! These look great!! How do I get one?

Pete Baumann, Tuesday, 21 June 2005 13:51 (twenty years ago)

Pete, they are initially being sent out to 14 or so (I forget) people who dibbed them a while ago, a few kind souls are willing to send them on.
Stay tuned, I still have to pester Josh for artwork and get the printing happening so it'll be a little while yet before posting.

mzui (mzui), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

I still want in on this via any means. One of the lucky 14 can email me and let me know anything I need to do. This looks amazing.

matt2 (matt2), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

Thanks mzui!

Hopefully I can trick someone into copying them for me!!

pete baumann, Tuesday, 21 June 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

I sent you a sample cover design a couple of weeks ago! I'll re-send, maybe it got caught in a spam filter or something. I need to stop mentioning viagra bestiality in my subject lines.

Petroski (petroski), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 21:29 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
Holy spam, it's been ages, but the finishing line is in sight.

Tracklists for CD's 3 & 4 coming very soon!

mzui (mzui), Thursday, 21 July 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

In the next day or two that is.

mzui (mzui), Thursday, 21 July 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

That day or two having now passed.... ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 10:48 (twenty years ago)

Oh heck, yes

mzui (mzui), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 10:50 (twenty years ago)

Yes, yes indeed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 7 August 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

It's nearly done Ned honest, I'm waiting for a Curiosa show from last year that's supposed to be brilliant for those last few tracks...!

mzui (mzui), Sunday, 7 August 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

Rah! But but but could you post the tracklisting from number three if that's settled?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 7 August 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

Okay then, I'll post CD3 tomorrow (files are at work) just for you Ned
:)

mzui (mzui), Sunday, 7 August 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

*merry* Thanks!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 7 August 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

Okay folks, I'm waiting for one last item (a video of The Cure Play Out) from E-Bay and then we will be ready to duplicate and get the artwork finalised. I will be contacting all you peeps by email at the end of next week. Just thought I'd better post cause it's been ages and I apologise.

mzui (mzui), Saturday, 13 August 2005 13:52 (twenty years ago)

No worries! Rah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 13 August 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

I'm trying desperately to locate some lossless versions of the new 3 piece Cure live stuff but it's proving mightily elusive inna non-mp3 state.

mzui (mzui), Saturday, 13 August 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

I kiss you.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Saturday, 13 August 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

Shouldn't that be "I kiss you kiss you kiss you"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 13 August 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

OH OH Oh, oh please contact me by email
I could relay some copies if need be...

kephm (kephm), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:49 (twenty years ago)

Pete, they are initially being sent out to 14 or so (I forget) people who dibbed them a while ago, a few kind souls are willing to send them on.

ok, missed this bit, i am officially looking for a kind soul to send one on to me.

kephm (kephm), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:55 (twenty years ago)

whoot whoot!

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 14 August 2005 10:46 (twenty years ago)

did I dib? oh lordy, i hope i dibbed.

if not, i rely on the largess of ilm to provide me with the necessary succour...

:-)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Sunday, 14 August 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

Hurrah! I'm torrenting a Cure 2005 show, I pray that the sucker is good enough quality. That will bring me bang up to date, I'll be posting a final list of peeps and mailing you all tomorrow (fri) to get posting info.

mzui (mzui), Thursday, 18 August 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

:-D (I'll be away from the Net for a couple of days starting tomorrow afternoon but I'll get a hold of you as soon as I can.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 18 August 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

everything except the two Launch tracks has been four-piece though, hasn't it?

kit brash (kit brash), Friday, 19 August 2005 04:41 (twenty years ago)

Hard copy is simply the most practical given the file sizes on the four main discs themselves -- that said, presumably if someone wanted to make a torrent using FLAC or a similar standard, then it could circulate that way. Don't know how useful that would be for the DVD, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 26 February 2006 21:13 (nineteen years ago)

I'd be willing to create a torrent of these in FLAC, but the source files would have to be .wav files, or else encoding to lossless would be pointless (and not truly lossless)- I'm not sure what the source(s) of these tracks are, format-wise.

The DVD would have to travel separately from the audio tracks on most or all torrent sites, but I guess they could be cross-referenced or something.

cdwill (cdwill), Sunday, 26 February 2006 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, you need to read the thread over, my friend. ;-) mzui was very specific about getting these directly from non-mp3 sources -- there is the bonus mp3 disc, but that was initially separate.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 26 February 2006 21:24 (nineteen years ago)

I wasn't clear: I saw that he's recording from master recordings, but if the discs themselves weren't .wav files burned to disc (but instead were .wav --> .mp3 --> burned to disc), they couldn't be ripped from disc and encoded to FLAC and be truly lossless.

cdwill (cdwill), Sunday, 26 February 2006 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

*blink* Okay, call me hopelessly naive perhaps, but surely the context of all his posts was to indicate that he was finding those master recordings to burn WAV/AIFF files to disc rather than burning mp3s reconverted to audio files.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 26 February 2006 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

I'd assume so, but I didn't see anything specifically mentioned about it.

cdwill (cdwill), Sunday, 26 February 2006 21:46 (nineteen years ago)

Guess what I have in my hot little hands. So anyone waiting for Ned (because I’m burning the DVD’s for him) or myself, the wait is almost over. So if everything goes as planned I will be burning all weekend and get these out on Monday or Tuesday. Thanks for being patient but it’s almost time.

BTW, the DVD kicks ass, we really need a part two to that because it’s so great and also really only goes through The Top era with only a couple of songs past that point.

Regardless BIG props to Mzui for this amazing collection! Thanks also to ILM for contributing the songs to this collection as it’s something special.

BeeOK (boo radley), Saturday, 4 March 2006 01:56 (nineteen years ago)

still hasn't turned up :( ³

kit brash (kit brash), Saturday, 4 March 2006 05:38 (nineteen years ago)

(xpost) Very excited!! i love the sorta-goofy-yet-completely-awesome Thornalley/Anderson lineup of the band.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Saturday, 4 March 2006 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

still empty handed here :(

kephm (kephm), Saturday, 4 March 2006 21:00 (nineteen years ago)

Done!

I will try and get this off to everyone today but most likely tomorrow. The thing is I have burned an extra set. So the reason for bumping this thread is to ask if anyone wants it? If so e-mail me at the address below and we will go from there.

BeeOK (boo radley), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 20:49 (nineteen years ago)

not fair! let the original list get theirs before the blow-ins!

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 00:45 (nineteen years ago)

Still nothing here :(

flowersdie (flowersdie), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 09:53 (nineteen years ago)

me neither :(

Le Baaderonixx de Clignancourt (baaderonixx), Thursday, 9 March 2006 09:44 (nineteen years ago)

Boy, is this thing mighty. Thanks, mzui and baaderonix and BeeOK and all involved.
And did anyone notice the guy playing bass in the Munich '84 concert isn't Phil Thornalley. It's some guy named Norman Fisher Jones. Who he? Love his Mick Karn'ish head bopping, as Ned noted above.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Thursday, 16 March 2006 02:43 (nineteen years ago)

Don't know why I thanked you there, Baaderonix but - er -

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Thursday, 16 March 2006 02:46 (nineteen years ago)

I thought that it should be hitting mail boxes around now. It's amazing, that is for sure, and you are welcome.

BeeOK (boo radley), Thursday, 16 March 2006 02:48 (nineteen years ago)

And did anyone notice the guy playing bass in the Munich '84 concert isn't Phil Thornalley. It's some guy named Norman Fisher Jones. Who he?

Whoa, weird. (Am about to give another copy to a friend of mine around here, rah. Thanks again, BeeOK!)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 March 2006 03:01 (nineteen years ago)

Back at you Ned, glad to see that they made it home saftly.

BeeOK (boo radley), Thursday, 16 March 2006 08:27 (nineteen years ago)

I thought that it should be hitting mail boxes around now

OH COME ON ORIGINAL LIST PEOPLE AND ACTUAL CONTRIBUTORS FIRST PLEEEEASE

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 16 March 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

we're the lost generation...

Le Baaderonixx de Benedict Canyon (baaderonixx), Thursday, 16 March 2006 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

I admit I'm a bit curious and sad about this strange delay for you guys! :-/

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

I promise my blank discs are on the way soon Ned and BeeOk. I haven't gotten a chance to go buy a DVD-R, but it will happen.

matt2 (matt2), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I still haven't seen mine, either. I did the artwork! I used my very own pirated copy of Photoshop and everything!

Petroski (petroski), Thursday, 16 March 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

mzui said they'd be rolling out slowly as time and finances allow.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 March 2006 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone in the UK looking for a copy can email me.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 17 March 2006 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

mzui said they'd be rolling out slowly as time and finances allow

Yes, but it would be nice if Ned and Bee could have held off on making copies for non-contributing people until the original list had gotten theirs.

kit brash (kit brash), Saturday, 18 March 2006 02:34 (nineteen years ago)

I can understand your frustration. Things came up all the time so it still took about a month for me to get anything done anyways. I felt bad to these people that I promised because it took that long.

If there is anything I can do to help get this out to people e-mail me at the address below so we can work out something, if there is still a problem.

BeeOK (boo radley), Saturday, 18 March 2006 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

Holy awesomeness. (Thanks for the burn, Ned)

remy (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 00:05 (nineteen years ago)

Yez welcome. (I should note that if I knew the angst this was all going to cause I would have refrained from burning for other folk for a bit! I'd volunteer to get them to those still in need but since I've no DVD burner Bee and Onimo are probably better candidates in the end.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 00:48 (nineteen years ago)

Offer is still open because of these problems...

BeeOK (boo radley), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

So is it over then for us, the lost tribe of the first generation?

Le Baaderonixx de Benedict Canyon (baaderonixx), Friday, 31 March 2006 08:43 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
Is everyone happy?

BeeOK (boo radley), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 06:02 (nineteen years ago)

NO

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 06:47 (nineteen years ago)

Bee, you may be the patron saint of all this yet.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

is there a way to get the tracklisting?

kephm (kephm), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 18:01 (nineteen years ago)

It's way upthread.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

Still nothing :(

Le Baaderonixx de Benedict Canyon (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 07:20 (nineteen years ago)

three months pass...
a distant pipe dream...

Baaderonixx immer wieder (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 12:25 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, who else never got a copy, then?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

I had hoped for a kind soul to run me off a copy at some point. I can pay for shipping and all that.

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

I can make copies. I think I offered somewhere for UK people to contact me to obtain one. If anyone further afield is having trouble I can always send a copy though it would obviously be better if someone nearer offered.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

I'm in Belgium, so if anyone around these shores is willing to spread the love...

Baaderonixx immer wieder (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:01 (nineteen years ago)

I never got one.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm in the States (Boston), but I'll cover the cost from wherever. It's not like I can go out to Ye Olde Recorde Shoppe and find this stuff, so it's worth it.

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

I never got one.

! :-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

BOS: Email me.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 16:22 (nineteen years ago)

I sent out four copies of this and gave Ned an additional five DVD's. So a bunch of ILMers got it but if not you can still get a hold fo me, email below.

BeeOK (boo radley), Thursday, 27 July 2006 04:27 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, the DVDs were sent out along with burned sets to folks hither and yon, so I know it should be easily circulating...I have stumbled across an extra DVD just now, and so I'd be willing to burn off one more copy of the full set to go with that. Otherwise this is all best handled by people who can burn both CDs and DVDs.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 July 2006 04:41 (nineteen years ago)

I'm still waiting too, as my frequent plaintive howling upthread has indicated. BRING DVD TO SYDNEY NED
