Just curious: have people heard of the finalists for the music Bloggies (scroll down a bit on the page)? I have not heard of a single one of them, although I don't read a lot of music blogs anyhow.

No

Both PPTL and Slatch are fine music internet resources. (The fact that PPTL links to my ventures has NOTHING to do with my opinions on their site - I wish PPTL was more active; I also wish I gave Slatch more time than I have.) Both are "indie"-oriented, though.

WTF is U2Log.com doing there, though?

PPTL is fine tho I don't remember it being a weblog (and does it update much?). Slatch I don't know, though I think I've been there. Mermaniac is a Good Thing - a show tunes/musicals based weblog, a bit dry but a great idea. U2log is U2log - love the idea of a band-based weblog, loathe the band, so blah. MusicRag is terrible but advertises on Blogger heh heh.

Apologies to PTTL - it is a weblog and it does update.

Tom, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

what does a site have to be to be a weblog?

g, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's meant to provide links and commentary on those links - most of them also have non-link entries too (like NYLPM's record reviews) though. But links+commentary is the basic formula.

Tom, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The most important thing: a weblog has to be updated from time to time. "Serious" weblogs are updated daily. The links are often cleverly integrated into the text. But Tom is right a weblog without links would be something else, e.g. an online journal if it is personal.

I try not to make the weblog portion the central focus of pttl, but it is a useful tool in annoucing site news and linking to the wonderful projects and sites that all you other folks have.

It's sort of embarassing to have been a finalist. I nominated NYLPM, Badger's site, Dave's site, slatch and several other ones that I think put out many more great links and commentary that we could ever hope to.

Mermaniac gave five errors on loading + far too many unrelated links = obviously dud

Vinnie, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have to say Jeff if there's any justice you'd win it. Mermaniac's a music weblog only in name now, and Slatch has lots of ideas but a way too narrow range. GO PTTL!

My weblog sucks ass. But it's meant to be that way. hah! Vive La Merde.

Of course, I forgot to vote, leaving the nominees to be chosed by thee Great Unwashed (i.e. people just like me). Kudos to PTTL, though - I support your candidacy 110%. (And, NO, this isn't because he nominated my site, either.) Who's up for some wire-taping?

David Raposa, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

looks like u2log won, which would happen to be the last one I would vote for

Next year, we're stuffing the ballot box. I think folks connected with this board could use the $20.03 more than Bono.

U2log won the equivalent category last year and will continue to win until someone starts up ThomLog. It's run by the woman who does Prolific, who is very nice and was an early supporter of NYLPM, so while U2 are insufferable the log actually has 0 to do with them.
