for me, sort of. basically all the flowered up and st etienne records are wonderful, but other than that i'm not really fussed about any of it. monkey mafia are passable at a push, too much beth orton, moonflowers i'd seen described as a butthole surfers/stone roses hybrid. it isn't.

but it would be churlish for me to dismiss the label because 2 great bands is 2 more than most labels manage

the label seems to have slipped. Currently they have pretty much no one (Ed Harcourt? Doves? ugh). But they used to have St. Etienne, East Village (now basically Birdie), Espiritu (music was pretty good but she was way hot), Dot Alison. For some reason they seem to have trouble keeping bands or actually getting products out. They had a deal with sony or something but it fell apart. Can anyone say anything about the band Snowblind? They were supposed to release an album on Heavenly, did it ever come out? any good, etc.?

A few recent things they've done I've quite enjoyed, like the Matt Harding single, the one and only Snowblind single, etc. But I'm deeply suspicious of a label that appears to haemorrhage large parts of its roster when they otherwise appear to be doing better than ever (courtesy of Doves and St Etienne reissues).

They seem to be on a bit of a signing frenzy at the moment tho'. No less than two Australian bands (neither I really have that much time for) and, of all bands, Shack.
