Has Shane MacGowan Ever Drunk Alcohol?

Shane's a tricky character, no denying that. The press (and you guys, hehe :) usually paint him up as, well, like this thread, but in reality he's a pretty well adjusted guy off stage. I've talked to him quite a few times and we got on just fine. It's all in how you approach him, so if you ever meet him after a gig, remember this: for the first 1:30, he will do nothing but quick big uppercuts that will knock you down with one hit. Try your best to keep dodging these punches and you can get 2 punches on him after he tries to hit you with a big uppercut. After 1:30, he will then do swing jabs for the rest of the time. These will not knock you down on one hit (thankfully) but are a little harder to dodge at first. At the beginning of the second round, he will do eight or ten lightning quick jabs (it sometimes depends on the hearts you start out with in the second round). Just quickly block them and hit him in the stomach to get stars. After that, he will do swing jabs and big uppercuts. This time, the big uppercuts will not knock you down automatically and you can get more hits out of him when you counter- attack. After 1:30 in the match, both of his eyes will keep blinking. Hit him in the face or the stomach and get ready to block all of his punches (four of them, if you block them succesfully). He just does a lot of swing punches, kind of like the "Piston Punch". A thing you can do is to block his first punch, and then counter-punch him four times, and repeat for the other four punches. Voila.

He has been drinking. This will not have been secret.

A mate of mine met him in a pub in Nenagh last year. Shane started doing the Ian Curtis jitter dance as my mate was wearing a Joy Division t-shirt. Then he started rhapsodising about rhinos that were on a nature doc on the telly in the pub

tbh it sounds more like brand building for his wife (and I wish him a safe recovery of course)

i may have told this before on ilm but hey.
a few years ago i went to see mark stewart and the mafia in bristol.
i was driving so could only have one beer, went to the bar, and ended up standing behind shane.
i waited for 10 mins (at least) while he literally bought everything he could.
(was one of those temp bars where they only have a limited amount of bought in stock)
the bartender could hardly keep up.
everytime while the bartender went to get what shane had requested, shane had quaffed the lot.
then at the eventual end, shane took out the largest roll of money i have never seen (like you see in films), paid the bill, then added an extra note of large value and said to the bartender 'this is for you'.
i felt somewhat embarrased when i ordered my one bottle of beer.

There was a club owner here that iirc once claimed the Pogues were the only band that ever played that ended with them out of alcohol. (Fwiw, I heard a similar story from another club, only the imbibers in question were Los Lobos!)

That Shane doc was really good, I thought, presence of Johnny Depp aside. Regardless of how he's doing now, it's amazing he's made it as long as he has.
