Has anyone ever tried to stop listening to music for a short or long period of time?

I go through stages where I don't listen to any music for a few days.. sometimes I just need that silence. but I must admit..I NEED music in the car..I can't go silent there..

I made conscious efforts to take less of an interest in it when I was younger, and there have been times when I've gone days without choosing to listen to any, what I hear in passing being purely incidental.I went through phases where music couldn't match the perfection of silence,so I didn't listen to anything but gradually got into my old listening patterns again with Music For Airports, which in its own way is as perfect as silence.

i've thought about it for like two seconds, but then realized how bland by day would be if i didn't have a soundtrack to my day. Driving to class requires a kick start to the day. Getting out of class I need something to get me fired up for the rest of the day. The only time i don't listen to music is when i'm reading/studying.

yes, but not really intentional. more of a time issue. quite often i'm just not in to play things, so i get behind with things i've bought or whatever and shit

I try, dear lord do I try. But the fucking stuff is everywhere. Lifts, shops, on the television. Really it is impossible to live a music free life.

I occasionally stop listening to music, just to take a break.

It usually lasts about a day.

Long period: only on holiday. Though of late I seem to be dragging tapes (and walkman naturally) with me.
Short period: yes, roughly one day. When I have a migraine attack.

Sometimes I'll fall completely out of happiness with one particular genre. If that ill-fated genre happens to be all that I've been listening to recently, I can go as long as 48 hours without listening to anything. If such an abnormality does come up, I compensate over the next week or so.

Sometimes, when I get home after a night out drinking, and no-one else is home, I start listening to whatever feels right at the moment. As often as not, this will involve changing records after each track (or even playing the same track ten times over, until I've got my fill of it), thus creating a sort of dream disco just for myself. It makes me quite delirious in a very self-indulgent way, I lie on the floor, dance around, mouth lyrics, play air instruments, pretend to be Jarvis, whatever.

When I wake up the next morning, my hangover is amplified by another, similar, feeling of come-down. This is worsened by examining the records lying all around the room -- What? Did I really play Carter USM last night? How loud? -- and the effect is that the thought of deliberately putting on music repulses me for 24 hours or so. Classical binge stuff.
