Billy Joel! Gorillaz! Westlife! D12! The curmudgeonly Mr Baran takes his tri-weekly turn at the Pop-Eye helm, and surprise surprise all the new entries get a slagging. Over to you...

I liked the Artful Dodger one. Just grudgingly. And you tell me - is there anything to like in the new releases this week. Even the Dream record - which is alright - only charted at 17.

Oh, I'm not saying you're wrong, in fact I agreed with almost all of it - I was really looking forward to hearing the Xzhibit and D12 singles and they were poor: the D12 one to be fair is impossible to judge because with the swearing removed it might as well be 4'33" by John Cage.

You could have been harsher on the Gorillaz. Not that you weren't harsh but by God, have you read what that smug fool has been saying about them? I find it amusing that the only way undie styles can get in the charts (even watery knockoff undie styles like the Gz) is by allying them to an indie star and a naff cartoon gimmick.

And is it just me or is there not something a bit dodgy about the Japanese character who is 'elfin' and can only say "Noodles!"? I mean the kindest thing you can say about that is that it's a bit unimaginative.

The next time I start despairing over the state of the U.S. charts, I'll reread this week's popeye.

Uptown Girl??? Like the original wasn't bad enough, Westlife is supposed to improve matters?

I haven't heard the Gorillaz, but they sound they would be amazingly awful. Albarn having a hand in things these days always means gut- wrenchingly bad music.

I think Mr B has under-rated the DJ Luck and MC Neat single. It was fairly astonishing on ToTP last night.

"Piano Loco" is baffling alright. Also, why does Luck wear the "NEAT" hoodie and Neat the "LUCK"?

"X(z)hibit" is the new "Sysqo".
