WHAT ARTIST MAKES YOU WANT TO OBJECTS AT THEIR HEAD?

Example: I caught a glimpse of Ryan Adams on Saturday Night Live, and I honestly wanted to simultaneously cry and strangle that wretched fuck.

Who else?

Oh, and I meant to put "throw" in that sentence

but I hit return.

sorry.

Don't you think describing Ryan Adams as an "artist" is a bit much? Unless you mean in the "con artist" way, that is.

Bono. Always has.

Ryan Adams is an artist: He makes music which conveys a message to an audience. Although I am not a big fan of his musick, I don't want to throw any objects his way.
Anyway he seems to be so UN New York (=cool), no?
Gage, stop watching SNL, it's making you ANGRY.
I want to throw my dirty knickers to Bono. Maybe he'll wash'em for me.

Alanis Morrissette. Everything about her makes me want to strike her repeatedly in the head with a sharp, spikey rake.

Alex, you'll have no problem hitting her face. It goes on and on and on...

helenfordsdale, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Art has a message? Oh shit, that's what's wrong with it.

Sterling Clover, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh Ryan Adams definitely = "cool", Helen. Did you see that bed-head?? It's like he keeps a can of hairspray in his night-table to immediately fix just that way each morning. So so cool. And he showed us the flag decal on the back of his guitar after the song was over! For like a good 5 seconds! Giving us the thumbs up! You know, that says it all, Ryan. Just sums it up. Once you've given the thumbs up to a FLAG DECAL what more is there to articulate?

I may need to stop watching this show as well.

Jamiriquai used to make me want to aim for the feet.

I just thoght how fantastic it would be to enter Caetano Veloso´s stage when his singing with only his guitar, grab the damn thing and smash in his head

Chupa-Cabras, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pick a Stroke. Any Stroke. I've never hated a band this much.

I'll never forget the magic afternoon I spent with Ryan Adams. After many bong hits and the rest of my leftover pizza, we made long, dreamy love on my futon. I didn't even mind that his cigarettes burned a couple holes in my sheets. He's really a sweet guy, and he promised he'd write a song for me on his next album.

Thing is, are you kidding or aren't you?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

All I really have to say about Ryan Adams is: "For God's Sakes, man, WASH YOUR HAIR!"

Alex in NYC, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

All of Sonic Youth.

Oliver, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I like Ryan Adams. And considering that episode was taped like two months after 9/11, and that the song he sang was "New York, New York," having a flag on your guitar hardly seems that terrible.

That said, the most annoying thing about that performance was the other guitar/bass player who had the exact same hair-do as Ryan.

Stuart Braithwaite...smug little hobbit.

Alacran, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ryan Adams makes me spit bullets. grrr. Don't stop kicking till he stops twitching. Ditto JK.

misterjones, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

God yes, Mogwai. Braithwaite = the Jonathan Franzen of dull, pointless caricature artiness

dave q, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

garth brooks

anthony, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What's so annoying about Stuart Braithwaite apart from his grumpiness and general lack of good feeling towards the rest of humanity? Is that "artiness" or "scottishness"? Or too many disco biscuits > see Simon Reynolds.

Justin Case, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Everyone really.

Im a very angry person.
