Kevin Rowland's feelings about Stevie Wonder

Listening to Dexy's 'Don't Stand me Down', there's a bit in 'Reminisce Part 1' (right about 2:02, fact fans) where Kevin Rowland's talking about:

'... I heard that blind man singing, the man with the glasses...I heard him singing, I didn't like the song you understand...but I did know what he meant about the higher ground...'

Now, for some reason, this strikes me as a little odd, that Mr Rowland wouldn't like Stevie's 'Higher Ground', given his fondness for & influence by soul music. I have no logical or factual basis to this opinion of course, it just seems not quite to fit with my perception of Kevin Rowland

Anyone else care to comment / had similar experiences?

before i ever heard shut em down i used to think phife's line from the scenario remix ('as for corny mcs, like chuck d, i shut em down') was a pe dis and could not figure how on earth phife could think chuck was a 'corny mc'.

Cheers, Ethan. Yeah, I guess this all comes down to how we actually perceive these artists to be, especially when we like 'em. Maybe some kind of projection of us onto them. It was just a bit of a surprise really, I just considered most people, particularly KR, would have no problem with 'Innervisions' (surely it's part of the canon (sp?) after all? ;)

I can't quite seem to articulate the thoughts that hit me about this, but if anyone has any idea at what I'm trying to get at, please feel free...
