Miss E... I'm Addicted

After reading about her and Timbaland here and elsewhere, and hearing the bizarre, frantic, insane, genius "Get Ur Freak On" in a club (I know it's late; I don't get out much anymore, ok?), I bought "Miss E... So Addictive" and can't believe how great it is. The production and arrangements are so creative and fun, I smiled and laughed with pleasure all the way through. I don't know another album I've bought recently that I can say that about. And I don't even like hip-hop!

I know we've talked about her before; thanks for letting me use this space as my own private weblog. Anyone else rival Missy/Timbaland for cool new sounds?

Hurrah for Sean! Next step, world domination.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Totally timely Sean cause I've just been listening to it again, and I am arbiter for all that is "now".

I haven't even pretended to be up on what's hot for at least 10 years, and anyone who reads my posts knows it. There was an element of embarassment when I put this thread up, but on the other hand the album isn't that old, and Timbaland's name still comes up often (albeit perhaps for other production jobs). Anyway, if it weren't for ILM, I probably wouldn't have bought the album, so it's a happy ending for everyone.

Sean, you shock me! You rock me! So what would all you know-it-alls suggest as the next purchase? Cause I, too, have not bought a hip hop album in years.

Arthur, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ah, that's easy.

The Poemcees' IOU Street.

The fact that it's Dan's brother's band is merely part of the fun. :-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Arthur, I'm telling all my rockist friends (i.e. all of them) to get "Miss E..." and you should too. Warning: there are some dance beats. I forgot; I like to dance.

Sean, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sean, I'm a total rockist poser! I have tons of dance records. I'm just a bit behind in the hip hop dept. Have a bunch of mp3s but haven't actually purchased anything since, I dunno, I guess the Dr. Doolittle soundtrack. If that counts.

Arthur, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I agree with Ned. In fact, here's an Amazon.com link to make purchasing the Poem-Cees CD easier.

Shameless promotion kills thread dead; film at 11.

I don't see the attraction of Get Ur Freak on. It's monumentally dull. Why not just listen to the Knight Rider theme tune and have a better time?

Ally C, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The "Knight Rider" theme doesn't have nearly as slammin' a beat as "Get Ur Freak On" (which sounds to me more like the music to Dig Dug, anyway).

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There were about three songs at So SOlid Crew where we all looked at each other with that "this is the Knight Rider Theme!" look in our eyes. None of them were, unfortunately.

In 5 years of apartment living, I got my first noise complaint last night playing this album again.
