The only ones I've heard are the Trail of Dead and Patrick Wolf records and I didn't like either of them.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

What, no Go-Betweens??

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)

what about

I Am Kloot - Gods And Monsters

and

Gorillaz - Demon Days

aeh, Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

wow, except for architecture in helsinki and patrick wolf I can't say I'm really a fan of any of those artists. guess we have VERY different tastes. for me it's Cass Mccombs, The Books, Of Montreal, etc....

breezy, Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i forgot The Books. great stuff

aeh (aeh), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I made the List.

I have the Go-Betweens album but I haven't listened to it yet.

I have Of Montreal's new album and it's pretty good, not better than Sataninc Panic in the Attic (which was my #1 album last year) but still pretty good.

I have most of the albums you guys are talking about and it's hard ranking them when you have over 300 albums from this year (mostly downloaded). So at the end of the year I will rank all my albums i heard this year and post it on here. This is just a little Half Year list.

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

Agree on Antony, Architecture, Patrick Wolf and Fiery Furnaces. Haven't heard a lot of it, I think The Eels and Trail of the Dead are pretty bad and Kings of Leon are one of the worst bands to ever pick up instruments.

Anthony Lombardi (CCPO), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

i am glad i dont live in michael's world

strng hlkngtn, Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

HA! hahahahahaha!

That One Guy (That One Guy), Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

wow, do we have different tastes... I suspect MichaelCostello1's list won't find much love on ILM

Mickey (modestmickey), Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

i'm mike's younger brother and i must say this is a pretty bad list.

here's my top 10
1-Caribou - The Milk of Human Kindness
2-Electrelane - Axes
3-Xiu Xiu - La Foret
4-M.I.A. - Arular
5-Final Fantasy - Final Fantasy Has a Good Home
6-M83 - Before the Dawn Heals Us
7-Fantomas - Suspended Animation
8-The Books - Lost & Safe
9-Low - The Great Destroyer
10-Beck - Guero

Some of you's guys may know me as Dude or Aerodynamic

That One Guy (That One Guy), Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)

do we really have 300 albums from this year?....ewww

That One Guy (That One Guy), Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

when the new hit parade album comes out it will be the 14th best record of the year

keith m (keithmcl), Thursday, 2 June 2005 01:34 (twenty years ago)

Teenage Fanclub still put out albums!!?? Wow, who knew?

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 2 June 2005 01:38 (twenty years ago)

Cello? Spoon! Woman King!

Danger Mouse (Dave M), Thursday, 2 June 2005 01:42 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, by "Cello" I meant a la Jack Black in School of Rock. I think that was unclear.

Danger Mouse (Dave M), Thursday, 2 June 2005 01:42 (twenty years ago)

in the past couple of months there has been a ton of records i have loved deeply. it's a pretty great year already. even if the kicker cd isn't as good as i hoped it would be.

keith m (keithmcl), Thursday, 2 June 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

The Fiery Furnaces and the Eels album are in my Top 5.

zeus, Thursday, 2 June 2005 07:25 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
Aaaaaahhh, the good ol' days.

This list has changed a lot since a couple of months. I'll put out the official list at the end of the year.

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 04:59 (nineteen years ago)

why are we supposed to care?

p.s. hell yes to petra haden. and i want to hear that eisley album.

reo, Wednesday, 20 July 2005 05:12 (nineteen years ago)

everyone should care about something. why not my album list?

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 05:15 (nineteen years ago)

quote from an unknown ILXor to myself: ILM is just a bunch of fat white music critics talking shit to a bunch of fat white music critics

The Amazing Jaxon! (jaxon), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 05:16 (nineteen years ago)

make us care.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 20 July 2005 05:38 (nineteen years ago)

nobody can be *made* to care. you should know this.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 05:41 (nineteen years ago)

'give us a reason to care' is perhaps a better way to put it.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 05:42 (nineteen years ago)

no. compel us to care. tie us up to care. institute caring as vital as oxygen to our continued wellbeing.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 20 July 2005 05:48 (nineteen years ago)

are you talking generally or about his favourite albums? seems a bit extreme

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 05:49 (nineteen years ago)

about the list. he needs to make a stronger case about why his list should matter to others. his "rules" put me off looking at it straightway.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 20 July 2005 05:58 (nineteen years ago)

Man, you guys can't take a sarcastic joke if someone gave it to you.

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 06:00 (nineteen years ago)

"you guys"

The Amazing Jaxon! (jaxon), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 06:01 (nineteen years ago)

No you're not going to get away with that old trope.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 20 July 2005 06:02 (nineteen years ago)

I keep getting confused when M C one and M C two post. Michael Costello, change your last name so i don't confuse you with marcello.

deej.., Wednesday, 20 July 2005 06:03 (nineteen years ago)

money for old trope

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 06:03 (nineteen years ago)

give 'em enough trope

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 20 July 2005 06:04 (nineteen years ago)

i still dont understand how you could have enough sense to put A Frames on your list and yet rank such a shitty 8 albums ahead of them.

Fetchboy (Felcher), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 06:11 (nineteen years ago)

I did it easily, Fetch.

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 06:19 (nineteen years ago)

some spots were filled in by new albums, some albums on the list went lower and higher, some I erased. It's a somewhat different list now.

Here's the Top 5 so far

1 Shout Out Louds: Howl Howl Gaff Gaff.
2 Broadcast: Tender Buttons.
3 The New Pornographers: Twin Cinema.
4 Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!.
5 Antony and the Jonsons: I Am a Bird Now.

Still, you might not agree, but I like these albums.

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 06:24 (nineteen years ago)

i haven't heard a single album on your list (except the mars volta) and probably never will hear a single one.

michael, how old are you and what part of the world do you live?

The Amazing Jaxon! (jaxon), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 06:26 (nineteen years ago)

18, Joizey

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 06:28 (nineteen years ago)

I am sad that 18-yr-olds care about Oasis

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 07:15 (nineteen years ago)

18-yr-olds anyone

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 07:28 (nineteen years ago)

well, you're getting back on track with the broadcast and NPs

Fetchboy (Felcher), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

I am excited to hear that Broadcast album, I'll say that.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 18:35 (nineteen years ago)

TS: Michael Costello vs. Geir Hongro

Cichael Hongrold, Wednesday, 20 July 2005 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

YOU"RE MUSACK SUXXXX

MIE MUSACK RUALZ

chickenfetish, Wednesday, 20 July 2005 19:53 (nineteen years ago)

Michael, you should maybe listen to the new Eno album, the latest albums by Oneida, Smog, and Damon & Naomi, Black Mountain's debut, School of the Flower by Six Organs of Admittance, and the Of Montreal album again, and see how they factor. The new Wolf Parade, Silver Jews, Broadcast, and Scott Walker albums coming out soon might make your list, too.

chickenhead, Wednesday, 20 July 2005 20:11 (nineteen years ago)

I feel like starting a thread called "Enough Of Me Talking -- What Do YOU Think Of Me?"
