Radiohead for many different reasons I don't have time to get into right now.

Hmm. I'll take too little irony over too much, so, Radiohead.

Radiohead

I'll take the ironic (i.e., Beck) over the morose, contra joseph. Although both have their place.

Radiohead. Mainly for Kid A, which I prefer to all Beck albums, plus the possibility that Radiohead's later stuff will 'grow on me.'

This thread = Christgau's nightmare

"Nothing for me today, thank you."

Christgau digs Beck! Several albums got in A-'s or higher, Guero got a high Honorable Mention. He just didn't like Sea Change. And he's given mild praise to everything Radiohead's done from Kid A on too.

Radiohead, because of "OK Computer"

Radiohead, even if Kid A were their only album. I actually love Beck's older stuff ("Bad Energy" from Golden Feelings freaks me out; some great stuff off of One Foot in the Grave), and I think that Odelay was one of the higher points of 90s pop, but I've never found myself listening to anything over and over again. Plus, his ties to Scientology are kind of creepy, although I might respect him more if he made a Scientologist concept album.

Indifference towards Beck vs. active dislike of Radiohead = Beck.

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Thursday, 2 June 2005 01:27 (twenty years ago)

Radiohead--more consistently interesting, less faddish.

Orbit (Orbit), Thursday, 2 June 2005 01:38 (twenty years ago)

Beck had more auspicious beginnings, but Radiohead was quite the come-from-behinder. Pablo Honey to The Bends has to be one of the biggest leaps ever made between albums.

beck stopped being fun with odelay. radiohead continue to be fun (though hail... was less fun).
