seattle usually loves all it's piece of shit rock bands but it's hard to find someone foolish enough to like the Presidents. reminds me of a Young One's episode...what was it called....oh yeah - BORING!
― biz, Thursday, 2 June 2005 03:11 (twenty years ago)
Though, the most recent mention of PUSA that I saw was a quote from one of the band members saying how great the Jet album was - something to do with him thinking they had good chemistry or something.

...and Guayaquil, the b-sides album: FUN! It has their cover of "Video Killed the Radio Star" as well as that "Cleveland Rocks" song that was the Drew Carey them, but my favorites are "Love Delicatessen," "Japan," and "You're the One" (I think that's what it's called). Catchy, quirky songs I got when I was trying to scam BMG.

More classic than dud - "harmless" is right, how could you really hate this band? They got a lot of good songs out of their kind of limited palette - aside from the well-known ones, I think "Volcano," "Tiki God" and "Ladies and Gentlemen" from II are all really catchy, great pointless rock songs.
― Doctor Casino, Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:39 (sixteen years ago)
They're okay. Nice folks, catchy tunes, dumb-funny lyrics, lots of family-friendly singalong energy. Don't know that I need to own any records, or even listen to them, like ever, but I've got half-fond memories of at least a few songs. Then again, they could be annoying as hell (that awful Back Porch song, too much cute animal shit). Can't say either classic or dud, but they seem like something that kids would dig. Do like the sloppy-yet-together spirit of the 1st LP, with all kinds of random noises, shouts, asides, and syncopated "accidents". Kinda reminds me of Weezer's blue album.

By kids, I mean like 3-5 years old.
Why have I never felt the urge to revisit this band

I take it this is a rhetorical question.
Not that they weren't quite fun at the time. I like to dig out Lump if I'm playing a 90s revival night.

For the same reason you have never felt the urge to revisit the Swamp Zombies.

I was just thinking last night about when Hank Hill was singing & playing "Peaches." This never really felt right to me. Presidents of the USA doesn't seem like the kind of band old Hank would really like.

Honestly, I loved these guys from the second I heard "Lump" on 120 Minutes, and they were SO HUEG in my friend group and then they got big and then like, in a blink, they were totally gone
I remember buying the B-sides comp senior year of H.S. when it came out and then like two years later in college they released album #3 and I was barely curious about what it sounded like (still have no idea, but I can take a guess). I think I still have those two CDs and I couldn't imagine playing them.

I was really psyched about this
The Presidents also collaborated with Sir Mix-A-Lot as Subset, a short-lived rock and hip-hop band. They had a brief tour and recorded several songs, but never released an album. The band broke up because Sir Mix-A-Lot wanted to take the band in a harder, more electronic direction, but Finn and Dederer were not interested.[3]

First album is classic though you kind of had to have heard it for the first time when you were like, 12. I'm one of the few who actually followed them through the years and all their albums have some good songs...the latest one definitely has some great tunes, but isn't really a good album. Freaked Out and Small might be their best one.

Really loved the first two albums. I got a bootleg a few years ago and it was a pretty good audience recording, and they really tore through the set like pros. They played all their hits and plenty of audience favorites and the best thing about it was you could hear everyone singing along to every word!
― Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 14:21 (fourteen years ago)
I played "Peaches" over the P.A. this morning during entry. Mrs. E________ was dancing; students seemed fairly unresponsive.
― clemenza, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 14:25 (fourteen years ago)
xp when I saw them in 2007 they were really tight; most everyone was my edge and they even MOSHED to "Peaches"; yep thats my generation
― frogbs, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 14:43 (fourteen years ago)
I haven't listened to these guys in probably 13 years, but I played the shit out of the first two back in the day. So many classic songs: "Toob Amplifier", "Lunatic to Love", "Feather Pluckn", "Dune Buggy"...

First two albums were played a lot in my car while delivering pizza. That was a long time ago, and I don't know that I've listened to them in at least a decade (aside from hearing a song on the radio now and then).

these guys always make me think of being in this high school journalism camp (yes, journalism camp) where the guy in the dorm room next to me would play the riff to peaches OVER AND OVER again for two weeks straight. it was kind of scary. one of the guys from this band has provided very nice backing vocals to some of robyn hitchcock's recent albums, so there's some points in his favor.

Never liked their music at all, but did not feel compelled to actively dislike them. But still, dud.
