according to Popbitch. aren't you all bursting with anticipation?

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Thursday, 2 June 2005 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

How can a one-man band with hired help reform, anyway?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 June 2005 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Once again, I am thinking along the same lines as His Royal Purple-Tie-ness.

Ken L (Ken L), Thursday, 2 June 2005 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

well, i guess reformed isn't the right word. he's back, anyway. again, according to the beacon of journalistic truth and integrity: Popbitch.

haha, i've been thinking about babybird lately.

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 2 June 2005 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm glad I was only exposed to "You're Gorgeous" once and never again.

Ian Riese-Moraine's all but an ark-lark! (Eastern Mantra), Thursday, 2 June 2005 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

my mate's ex nicked my copy of ... fuck, i can't remember the name. the last album. black cover. lots of stuff about space travel and boys committing suicide. bleaker than death itself.

bitch. i must try to get my hands on another copy. IIRC it was a very limited edition.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 2 June 2005 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

babybird, along with gay dad, are very frequent d/ls from me on slsk. in fact at any given time, there is a babybird song queued.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 2 June 2005 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Shine Headlights on Me is the Drummer in Gay Dad.

i keed, i keed!

his last album was horrible, was it 'almost cured of sadness'? I think it was. there may have been albums after that, i don't know. i still love the first five lo-fi numbers.

keith m (keithmcl), Friday, 3 June 2005 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I have those first five too -- really grand, actually. But then I heard the first 'proper' album and thought, "Dude, stick to your strengths!" The rerecording of "Dead Bird Sings" was painful.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 June 2005 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

six years pass...

A much underestimated songwriter - but then I was lucky enough to get to him before You're Gorgeous went and ruined everything. The stuff he recorded in his bedroom really is great.

Agreed (and I see I said as much in the post right above yours!)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 21:54 (fourteen years ago)

You did, but I had the thought independently...honest!

yugi ex, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 21:58 (fourteen years ago)

seven years pass...

so yeah these early lo-fi albums have some really good stuff on them. this is some proto-Ariel Pink shit right here-
