my mate's ex nicked my copy of ... fuck, i can't remember the name. the last album. black cover. lots of stuff about space travel and boys committing suicide. bleaker than death itself.

his last album was horrible, was it 'almost cured of sadness'? I think it was. there may have been albums after that, i don't know. i still love the first five lo-fi numbers.

Yeah, I have those first five too -- really grand, actually. But then I heard the first 'proper' album and thought, "Dude, stick to your strengths!" The rerecording of "Dead Bird Sings" was painful.

A much underestimated songwriter - but then I was lucky enough to get to him before You're Gorgeous went and ruined everything. The stuff he recorded in his bedroom really is great.
