I heard about this on the radio a while ago, and figured that it had probably already been discussed. But apparently not. The link from NYLPM doesn't actually tell you the best bits about it:

*The craft is being co-designed by Damien Hirst and 'a Chinese Dentist'.

*The quote from the scientist guy: "This is one of those things that sounds really easy in the pub, but when you get down to it it's actually kinda hard."

Alex James and the scientist bloke were talking on the today programme on Radio 4 this morning, it's rather sad to think that the first music played on mars will be by blur

It's nonsense to say this will be the first music heard on Mars. If there's anything up there, and if it has any sort of music capable technology, it has been hearing every radio broadcast and TV broadcast since the invention of those media. They're probably already bored to tears with Blur.

This made me laugh a bit. Then I thought it's much safer to play something ambient-y and instrumental. But what if Martians generally listen to gabba-death-blast music and listen to it and think we're a bunch of wet-blankets, set their lasers to "LIQUIFY" and blow the shiz out of us?
