kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 4 June 2005 04:00 (twenty years ago)

Classic. Most Was (Not Was) is.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Saturday, 4 June 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

Dud, Even though the band members had a pretty good history, it's a dud.

I use to sing this song when I was 3. But I also use to sing "I'm Too Sexy" when I was 3.

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Saturday, 4 June 2005 04:36 (twenty years ago)

KLASSICK

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 4 June 2005 04:43 (twenty years ago)

It's no "Hey Dad, I'm in Jail", but upon further listening, I love it. So...classic.

Sidenote: Back in my halcyon college radio days of yore, we used to have a feature called the "Audio Torture Chamber" in which we would play a given song over and over until someone called in and asked us to turn it off. The only song that got a call faster than "Hey Dad" was a Bathory song...

John Justen (johnjusten), Saturday, 4 June 2005 05:59 (twenty years ago)

people are such pussies.

latebloomer: Pain Don't Hurt (latebloomer), Saturday, 4 June 2005 06:03 (twenty years ago)

re: the bathory thing, i mean.

latebloomer: Pain Don't Hurt (latebloomer), Saturday, 4 June 2005 06:15 (twenty years ago)

I have no idea what you're talking about. I downloaded Bathory the other day. Is that a drum machine? What happened to the wine?

ReNTBAPA: Resolute Not To Be A Prick Anymore (Unfortunate Prankster), Saturday, 4 June 2005 06:16 (twenty years ago)

woops wrong thread

ReNTBAPA: Resolute Not To Be A Prick Anymore (Unfortunate Prankster), Saturday, 4 June 2005 06:16 (twenty years ago)

Hahaha, I figured since I was on the wrong thread, I'd at least try to contribute. So, I had this whole big Dinosaur Jr. thing typed out and was about to hit submit when something inside told me to take another look around, like when you cross the street. And I realized this isn't a thread about Dinosaur Jr. At all.

ReNTBAPA: Resolute Not To Be A Prick Anymore (Unfortunate Prankster), Saturday, 4 June 2005 06:19 (twenty years ago)

this song completes the trifecta of goofy white funk hits that I loved as a child in the 80's (along with "Sledgehammer" and "Love Shack")

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 4 June 2005 06:21 (twenty years ago)

OPEN THE DOOR
GET ON THE FLOOR
EVERYBODY WALK THE DINOSAUR

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 4 June 2005 06:23 (twenty years ago)

I mean, this song had to be pretty much written for 5-year-olds who were obsessed with dinosaurs, right? at least, that's what I figured at the time, when I was one.

{Intro}
Boom boom acka-lacka lacka boom
Boom boom acka-lacka boom boom
Boom boom acka-lacka lacka boom
Boom boom acka-lacka boom boom

It was a night like this forty million years ago
I lit a cigarette, picked up a monkey skull to go
The sun was spitting fire, the sky was blue as ice
I felt a little tired, so I watched Miami Vice

I walked the dinosaur, I walked the dinosaur

{Refrain}
Open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the dinosaur

{Intro}

I met you in a cave, you were painting buffalo
I said I'd be your slave, follow you wherever you go
That night we split a rattlesnake and danced beneath the stars
You fell asleep, I stayed awake and watched the passing cars

And walked the dinosaur, I walked the dinosaur

{Refrain}

One night I dreamed of New York
You and I roasting blue pork
In the Statue of Liberty's torch
Elvis landed in a rock-rock-rocket ship
Healed a couple of lepers and disappeared
But where was his beard

A shadow from the sky much too big to be a bird
A screaming crashing noise louder than I've ever heard
It looked like two big silver trees that somehow learned to soar
Suddenly a summer breeze and a mighty lion's roar

I killed the dinosaur, I killed the dinosaur

Open the door, get on the floor, everybody kill the dinosaur
{Repeat 8X}

{Intro to fade}

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 4 June 2005 06:28 (twenty years ago)

Al, you're right. They definitely knew they had a good thing with the little kids.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Saturday, 4 June 2005 06:30 (twenty years ago)

Also, *love* the bridge, which is missing from the short single version.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Saturday, 4 June 2005 06:32 (twenty years ago)

was it my imagination or was 'shake yo head' a duet with ozzy and kim basinger?

Popli Kid, Saturday, 4 June 2005 06:33 (twenty years ago)

actually now looking back at the all the pop culture references (Miami Vice!?) and the "kill the dinosaur" ending (if I payed attention to that part at the time I would've been a very displeased li'l dinosaur enthusiast) I'm thinking this isn't really that kid-friendly. (xp)

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 4 June 2005 06:33 (twenty years ago)

extended xpost:

Sadly, the general purpose of the "Audio Torture Chamber" was to convince me that no-one wanted to hear my "odd" musical selections. My triumph was playing "Ballad of Ed Gein" by the Swamp Zombies until my Live/Pearl Jam loving co-DJ was forced to call in from the record library next door. After 5 repeat playthroughs. I can only assume that the student body had succumbed to some sort of trance-like acceptance of the beauty...

John Justen (johnjusten), Saturday, 4 June 2005 06:41 (twenty years ago)

Al: Hmm. Was that last verse possibly cut from the single as well?

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Saturday, 4 June 2005 06:51 (twenty years ago)

and then they wrote the brilliant "where did your heart go" for wham.

can you beleive a cd without "walk the dinosaur"

latebloomer: Pain Don't Hurt (latebloomer), Saturday, 4 June 2005 09:59 (twenty years ago)

ANYWAY for some reason this song always reminds me of that awful Super Mario Bros. movie. Can't say I hate the song, though.

latebloomer: Pain Don't Hurt (latebloomer), Saturday, 4 June 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

There's also an unreleased "Shake Your Head" with Madonna on lead vocal, reportedly.
