...because i'm pretty sure it is.

I haven't seen that video bu I did always think Bizarre Love Triangle was the greatest video ever.

Tokyo Ghost Stories (Tokyo Ghost Stories), Monday, 6 June 2005 01:43 (twenty years ago)

The correct answer is "True Faith". Mancunian weirdos dressed up like aliens slapping each other, what more could you want?

Nic de Teardrop (Nicholas), Monday, 6 June 2005 01:49 (twenty years ago)

new order's "60mph" with the guy and the fake bear and the real bear is funny.
true faith was similar to fine young cannibals "she drives mne crazy" i don't know which was first but it was strange seeing both these videos at the same time.

If you're referring to the TOTP video that was filmed at the beach on the set of Baywatch, then yes, possibly.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 6 June 2005 02:02 (twenty years ago)

what movie is blt's sample from
asian woman "i refuse to come back as a rat "

morning sun club, Monday, 6 June 2005 02:02 (twenty years ago)

It's a fantastic video. I remember also really liking "World".

daavid (daavid), Monday, 6 June 2005 02:47 (twenty years ago)

I always really really liked the video for "Perfect Kiss." It just seemed so simple and honest.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Monday, 6 June 2005 02:51 (twenty years ago)

what movie is blt's sample from

It's not from a movie -- that's the whole point. ;-) It's a fake sample created for the video.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 6 June 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

Touched by the Hand of God is ace as well- New Order as hair metal buffoons, with many an explosion. In fact all their videos are pretty great- Ruined in a Day, by no means NO's best song, had a great Apocalypse Now! themed video, if I remember rightly...

Neil Stewart (Neil Stewart), Monday, 6 June 2005 09:20 (twenty years ago)

why haven't these been collected and released on DVD? dodgy bootleg DVDr's sell like hotcakes on eBay. the band should cash in, especially now with the new album and all.

william, it was really nothing (superpopelectro), Monday, 6 June 2005 10:03 (twenty years ago)

Squarepusher's "Come On My Selector" is about 100 times better than any of these.

Jetlag Willy (noodle vague), Monday, 6 June 2005 11:08 (twenty years ago)

Mancunian weirdos dressed up like aliens slapping each other

I think they were Belgian actually. Yes this is a good one, as is 'Touched...' but my favourite New Order video is 'World'.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

No Hasselhoff so that can't be true.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

The official 'Regret' video does not feature The Hoff and I don't remember anything that interesting happening in it. New Order don't really deserve good videos anymore as their new songs are so incredibly dull. Mind you they did do 'Transmission' on Later last Friday and it was the first time I'd ever heard Barney actually SHOUT - and it wasn't as bad as you might think.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

Never seen it, sadly.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

no. the original video - lots of little shots of them sitting in hotel rooms, IIRC - is pish. the baywatch thing is tedious. "world" and "ruined in a day" are several thousand times better.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

wasn't it all in one long tracking shot through some fancy tropical resort with fat dudes in speedos wandering the halls? black n white, kinda absurd n sad?

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that was world.

I like the lo-fi 80's computer graphics/meshed with inverted scenes of warfare in the original "Blue Monday" video.

Ian Riese-Moraine. Sweeter than a lorry load of white Toblerones. (Eastern Mantr, Monday, 6 June 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

I like "Perfect Kiss" cuz it's one of those rare videos where the music is actually being performed live.

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Was it "Touched By the Hand of God" that had them in metal gear? That was awesome.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

The correct answer is "True Faith". Mancunian weirdos dressed up like aliens slapping each other, what more could you want?

They were a French avant garde dance troop, i believe (the same weirdos that appeared in the clip for "She Drives Me Crazy" by the Fine Young Cannibals).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

I like the video for Round & Round a lot. For some reason.

Perfect Kiss is also great, especially for the looks they all have on their faces once the song is over.

Viz (Viz), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

"Perfect Kiss" is great, although Hook looks awful in those sweatpants.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

yeah but his solo at the end is awesome. wish it had made the lp/12" version.

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

I think the "Regret" vid is pretty convention by New Order standards. It could be any group's video.

Now, "Fine Time" is the winner for the most WTF-ness of their video collection.

Scott Warner (thream), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

The official "Regret" vid is one of my top 3. I love how it equates Rome and Los Angeles. I've talked about this on another thread. The "Bizarre Love Triangle" is perhaps my favorite work of video art.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

For the record, the "BLT" video is directed by Robert Longo and the "Perfect Kiss" by Jonathan Demme.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

Can anyone tell me what the story is behind the dude in the doorway at the end of the video for "Perfect Kiss"...the one who looks like Ian Curtis shaking his head "no"?? Anyone have any scoop about that??

reetz, Monday, 6 June 2005 18:49 (twenty years ago)

That's Jonathan Demme himself. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but they always talk about how it seems like Ian enjoying their music. The head-shake seems positive.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

Their other great videos are for "Round and Round" and "Confusion."

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:59 (twenty years ago)

"Confusion": Barney in shorts, priest-like and pie-eyed, attending legendary NYC dance clubs, pizza tossing, Arthur Baker takes cab, etc

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

five years pass...

I keep forgetting how fantastic this song is

Dreaded Burrito Gang (DJP), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:25 (fourteen years ago)

Is it ever.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:37 (fourteen years ago)

And of course let us not forget the Hoff:

Haha and I just noticed that the person who posted that is our own baaderonix!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:38 (fourteen years ago)

errr, nope wasn't me - but I wholeheartedly approve the initiative.
I do like the official video though - shots of Rome iirc with sweet early 90's video effects

You could start a religion around the last fifteen seconds of the Perfect Kiss video.
