I have the space. Do I have the inclination?

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

Nah.

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:55 (twenty years ago)

Yes. "It's All Right for You" and "So Lonely."

Maybe "On Any Other Day" instead of "It's All Right for You."

The Mad Puffin, Monday, 6 June 2005 12:57 (twenty years ago)

'cant stand loosing' is pretty ok but they define overated

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:03 (twenty years ago)

no, you shouldn't.

m0stly clean (m0stly clean), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

Hmm. I was thinking of maybe "Bed's Too Big Without You" and a couple of the other album tracks. I heard "Synchronicity II" on the radio yesterday, and while I don't really like that song, well, I liked it yesterday.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

My opinion: almost nothing after "Regatta de Blanc" is tolerable, but at one time they were not a bad rock band.

The Mad Puffin, Monday, 6 June 2005 13:21 (twenty years ago)

Add "Canary In A Goldmine" and call it a day.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:21 (twenty years ago)

i'd suggest....

"Driven to Tears"
"Does Everyone Stare?"
"No Time This Time"
"Burn for You"
"Can't Stand Losing"
"Dead End Job"

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:22 (twenty years ago)

Masoko Tanga
Voices Inside My Head
Too Much Information
When the World is Running Down You Make the Best of What's Still Around

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

PEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAANUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTS (squawk!! squeal!!!)

actually i've no idea if this song is any good, but i can remember liking it when i was 10 (which in my case is not a very good barometer)

zappi (joni), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

Given all the space I have available, I can easily squeeze all of the above on (and some more, too). Thanks for the reminders, since I haven't listened to the band for ten years.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

i caught myself fully singing along to 'message in a bottle' in the supermarket the other day. dunno what my fellow shoppers thought abou that.

gem (trisk), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

"No Time This Time"

A deliciously tight, fun song. It is utterly without fat--and it precisely illustrates the degree to which early Police rules over late Police.

The Mad Puffin, Monday, 6 June 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

Truth Hits Everybody is a good 'un. An early-ish b-side i think, on the Message In A Box compilation I got for christmas, was dancing around the tree to it after dinner.

JohnFoxxsJuno, Tuesday, 7 June 2005 08:03 (twenty years ago)

"Driven to Tears."

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 08:12 (twenty years ago)

Add "Canary In A Goldmine" and call it a day.
-- joseph cotten (josephcotte...), June 6th, 2005.
shoulda been single

and "king of pain" .

sting jnr, Tuesday, 7 June 2005 11:34 (twenty years ago)

Definitely add "So Lonely" and "It's Alright for You". I like most of Regatta de Blanc quite a bit.

mcd (mcd), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

The damage has been done! I think I added all of the above, plus several other singles and album tracks. Yes to "Message in a Bottle." No to "King of Pain." Regardless, I'm sure whatever pops up on random will be a pleasure.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

They used "The Bed's Too Big Without You" as bridge music yesterday on NPR's Marketplace! And I think Puffin's speaking the truth.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

How very indie of you all to recommend only obscure album cuts, and no singles or hits.

Throw the Greatest Hits on there too, you know you wanna!

The Grauzone (The Grauzone), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

Well, I'd gleefully say stuff like, "Fuck one King of Pain, fuck one Scottish lake, etc.", but that sort of thing's expected.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

The Police on my iPod:
So Lonely
Bring on the Night
Deathwish
The Bed's Too Big Without You
Driven to Tears
When the World Is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around
Voices Inside My Head
Shadows in the Rain
Spirits in the Material World
Secret Journey
Darkness
Tea in the Sahara

Bobby Peru (Bobby Peru), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

Am I the only person who loves "Miss Gradenko"?

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

dunno. if you like 'mother', though, then you're alone.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

FALLOUT! - The best Police song that I currently do not have.

"Miss Gradenko" is damn cool. However, any song following "Mother" would sound pretty cool.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

Fair point, Grauzone.

I do like "Message in a Bottle," "Don't Stand So Close to Me," "Roxanne," "Walking on the Moon," "Can't Stand Losing You," even "De Do Do Do." But many of these have been exposed to the point where I don't need to go out of my way to hear them very often.

The Mad Puffin, Tuesday, 7 June 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

Add "I Burn for You", "Wrapped Around Your Finger", "Bring on the Night" and "Bed`s to Big Without You".

djangojones (djangojones), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

Why didn't "Voices Inside My Head" get, like, a gazillion remixes or offers thereof?

That's the single greatest Police song ever, period.

Put that song, the Fallout 7", and the first album Outlandos D'Amour or whatever it's called, remove "Roxanne" and "Can't Stand Losing", and you're set..(this is available from the Message In A Box complete-discog+ box set)

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

OK, "Synchronicity II" is an awesome song as well. Sneak that on there as well.

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

I just erased the entire iPOD library. It was so much fun. Then starting fresh.

"Message in a bottle" is the song they play in my nightmares. But "Can't stand losing you" they play in my wet tantric sex dreams.
