this is a great song!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

for years I thought he was saying "I'm dead I'm dead I'm dead"!

this song is a bit silly, now. but I like the drums at the beginning; a 30 minute remix of just the drums would rule.

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I always thought he was saying "I'm dead" until I looked up the lyrics out of sheer curiousity.

Is it even drums? I always assumed it was simply hi-hat and woodblock.

Daniel Ash's guitar OWNS this song.

David J was at this party in downtown LA yesterday - the guy looks *exactly* the same as he always has.

There was an awesome mashup/bootleg 12" going around that was a threeway pileup of "Bela Lugosi's Dead", "Ass n Titties" and "Hava Nagila". That thing was heavy, and all three songs sound so good together.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 06:19 (twenty years ago)

The Opera IX cover of it is fantastic.

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 08:53 (twenty years ago)

...I'll have his chips, then.

It's hi-hat + sidestick on the snare + four-on-the-floor bass drum

The slowed-down version in The Hunger is my favorite.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 7 June 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

i was expecting the date on those tombstones to read differently.

Look, Bela Lugosi isn't actually dead. He's just cryogenically frozen, okay?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 13 August 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

i seem to remember reading an interview during the 19998 tour and it went into how when they do this live they sync up a drum machine with live drums and vocals.

Oh, how I love this song.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 13 December 2005 02:45 (nineteen years ago)

The version I saw them do on Friday was actually the best of all the ones I've caught live. It finally felt truly ominous, thanks in part to some excellent lighting.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 02:51 (nineteen years ago)

Edward, can you reload your YSI? I want to have a battle of the acoustic covers... for here is mine, slightly embarrassing, from three years ago.

Yeah, "embarassing" and "Bela Lugosi's Dead cover" are basically synonyms. It's an odd compulsion makes us do these things, like public drunkenness.

If Quentin Tarantino remakes The Hunger, he should use your version during the club scene...

I found that on a celebrity grave-finding site. He was rated 4.8/5 on the "how famous is this person" scale.

Posting it again for the younger generation, one more time. Bimble just might be a vampire. Bimble is a vampire who loves you, though.
