Does anyone know what's keeping This Heat's "Deceit" from being reissued?

Certainly worthy of one, and lord knows I have nothing better to do with my time than to start a letter-writing campaign.

Steev (Steev), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 05:48 (twenty years ago)

lazy ass These REcords

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 05:53 (twenty years ago)

err...wasn't it remastered and reissued a couple of years ago?

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

In 2001, yes, but it went out of print shortly after. ReR still has it on their online catalogue, but in reality they don't have any copies. Had to find that one out the hard way.

I'd be glad to buy someone's copy... for a reasonable sum.

Steev (Steev), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 07:16 (twenty years ago)

ahh. they really are astonishingly disorganized.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 07:47 (twenty years ago)

There's supposed to be a repressing soon -- but that's been reported for a long while now.

I signed up for an email in mid-2003, asking for information about This Heat reissues.
Haven't heard anything yet.
What about the self-titled album? Is These planning a reissue of that too? I can't remember.

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 13:52 (twenty years ago)

I really need the first album like no one's biznuzz.
That and fucking Harmonia "De Luxe"
THESE RECORDS SHOULD BE STANDARD ISSUE

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

Harmonia "De Luxe" has just being re-released by Universal here in Europe.

Marco Damiani (Marco D.), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

oh awesome

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

So if I were start bombarding someone's place with letters, whose place would I be aiming at?

Steev (Steev), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

SNAPPY, DE-LUXE IS PRETTY EASY TO COME BY.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

"What about the self-titled album? Is These planning a reissue of that too? I can't remember."

These Records confidently assured me "a re-mastered and re-packaged version is 'almost' ready to go into production,
and hopefully could be available soon. We will keep you informed of availablity. Thanks for the enquiry and your interest."

Unfortunately that was on the 6th February 2003 and I've heard absolutely squat from them since.

"So if I were start bombarding someone's place with letters, whose place would I be aiming at?"

these@theserecords.com would seem to be the logical place to start.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

I HAD IT, BUT BACK WHEN I THOUGHT IT WAS COOL TO BE SUICIDALLY DRUNK FOR SHOWS I LOST IN IN A SNOW BANK

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

way to go.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 21:22 (twenty years ago)

I've had the s/t album for years on CD, but never got Deceit for some reason. Can someone compare/contrast/explain to me why I need it?

Hutlock (Hutlock), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

They are completely different. Deceit is more song-based. But it's just as great. Do you need more than that?

These Robust Cookies (Robust Cookies), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 22:42 (twenty years ago)

deceit is probably one of the best albums of the 80s if not, like, forever.

strng hlkngtn, Wednesday, 8 June 2005 22:47 (twenty years ago)

Erm, not to nitpick, but yeah, I need more than that. I mean, I love s/t, so would I be totally confused by Deceit? Does "song-based" = more accessible, or are they not those sorts of songs?

Hutlock (Hutlock), Thursday, 9 June 2005 01:09 (twenty years ago)

For me, Deceit is heads and shoulders above the S/T. You wouldn't be confused at all, I'd hope!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 9 June 2005 01:13 (twenty years ago)

No, Deceit is far from accessible. xpost

These Robust Cookies (Robust Cookies), Thursday, 9 June 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

fuck i just realised i owe stewart the s/t. do you still want it stewart?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 9 June 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

I've had the s/t album for years on CD, but never got Deceit for some reason. Can someone compare/contrast/explain to me why I need it?

How often do you listen to the s/t? IMO, it's much better and you only need Deceit if you really need to hear singing added to the This Heat sound (I didn't). I would almost recommend the Quiet Sun album before Deceit.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 9 June 2005 05:24 (twenty years ago)

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT'S KEEPING YOU PATHETIC BITCHES FROM HAVING HALF A CLUE?!!?!?!?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 9 June 2005 05:28 (twenty years ago)

The singing is a mixed blessing. Sometimes very effective (e.g. "Sleep," "Makeshift Swahili"), sometimes slightly grating (e.g. "Triumph," "Independence"). But the music is quite different--while there is some continuity, I don't think you can really say it's the same "sound" as the s/t.

These Robust Cookies (Robust Cookies), Thursday, 9 June 2005 05:59 (twenty years ago)

No, you're right. That was a bit lazy. Sonically, the album is amazing but I guess I just don't really like the singing on Deceit.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 9 June 2005 06:04 (twenty years ago)

Of course I meant a lot of singing rather than just a little bit of singing now and then. Oh, I give up.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 9 June 2005 06:20 (twenty years ago)

".... BACK WHEN I THOUGHT IT WAS COOL TO BE SUICIDALLY DRUNK FOR SHOWS...."

Aaaah yes, the '80's: I remember them well.... well, I remember some bits of them.... badly....

"fuck i just realised i owe stewart the s/t. do you still want it stewart?"

Fuckin' 'ell YES PLEASE!!!

Ummmm.... does this mean I still owe you something?

You'll have to remind me - I'm afraid my memory hasn't been too good since the '80's.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 9 June 2005 07:32 (twenty years ago)

their harmonies and the accessibility (resemblance to pop/rock stuffs) is what makes Deceit one of my all time favorite records. Likewise Health and Efficiency. And the pick of Camberwell Now and solo stuff. And the Flaming Tunes tape.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 9 June 2005 07:39 (twenty years ago)

ok i send no you don't owe me i can't decipher email though mullygrubber gmale

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 9 June 2005 08:18 (twenty years ago)

Huh?

Is the "fang@limited.net" address valid?

You just need to remove the "downspamdown" bit from mine.

Cheers!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 9 June 2005 08:50 (twenty years ago)

of course not. i will remove.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:01 (twenty years ago)

fell, you need burns, or just want the packaging?

Beta (abeta), Thursday, 9 June 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

when i picked up the Deceit reissue from a few years back, they were in some sort of digipack design that had raised plastic molding, cutting into the cd itself. had to return a few copies before finding one that didn't come 'scratched.'

Beta (abeta), Thursday, 9 June 2005 13:36 (twenty years ago)

Dan, can you drop more info re: the Flaming Tunes tape?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 9 June 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

Also - was there any difference between the fancy digipack reissue of Deceit and the old CD version? I snagged the latter off of eBay a long time ago, and heard that the now-OOP reissue blew that version away.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 9 June 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

i couldn't hear any difference between the digi-packed and first CD editions. after a bunch of comparison listens, i got rid of the reissue and kept the latter, simply because i prefer how the liner notes are presented in a fold-out sheet rather than as a flimsy insert.

echoinggrove (echoinggrove), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

Charles Hayward "Survive the Gesture": Classic. I have a weird TH collection.

The fact that nobody will buy it?

Did you read much of this thread before responding?

Steev (Steev), Thursday, 9 June 2005 22:58 (twenty years ago)

what's keeping deceit from being reissued?

about 3-4 years. that's how long it's been between reissues, if the last several batches serve as any indication.

ggx, Thursday, 9 June 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)

As an example, here's the first track:

And here's the second one -- probably my favourite on the LP:

about 3-4 years. that's how long it's been between reissues, if the last several batches serve as any indication.

I'd like to think it's the kind of record that should ALWAYS be in print.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 10 June 2005 05:08 (twenty years ago)

dan otm... same with a lot of tim buckley's catalogue, and american releases of harmonia, pop group, orange juice, etc... there's gotta be more interest in any of those albums than half the ho-hum crap you can buy on amazon.... i have burns of deceit, s/t, and made available, but i'd buy them if they were available.

was there every a thread on the Camberwell Now re-issue? I like it as much as s/t and deceit.

poortheatre (poortheatre), Friday, 10 June 2005 06:19 (twenty years ago)

No, but there was some discussion of it on this thread 'ere.
