Because I am bored, I've compiled a montage of ten song introductions. Each song is of the alt-90's format. The intro's are really quick, so listen closely.

Two links to follow. Pick one or the other:

The MP3 file is about seven seconds long.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

OK, I got the first three and Pets right away .. but it gets more difficult...

geyser muffler and a quarter (Dave225), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

Keep in mind that these songs come from a commercial radio station, so don't worry about having to decipher some Guided By Voices B-side from Australia.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

i am equally bored.

smashing pumpkins - 1979
meat puppets - backwater
breeders - cannonball
depeche mode - policy of truth
screaming trees - nearly lost you
prodigy - breathe
porno for pyros - pets
blind melon - no rain
?

rajeev (rajeev), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

rajeev (rajeev), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 18:44 (twenty years ago)

Nice, rajeev. All songs listed are correct.

(#9 isn't Pearl Jam, tho'.)

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 18:59 (twenty years ago)

i'm hearing Pumpkins, Blind Melon, Depeche Mode, Prodigy(I don't know what order), and is the last one Foo Fighters?

tremendoid (tremendoid), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

ok peeking back I was correct on all the ones I've heard except FF, haven't heard the rest of them anyway.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

Vinnie (vprabhu), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

That One Guy (That One Guy), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Also, I used to play this game with my roommate in college, except on Winamp.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

On Winamp in the same room, that is. Gah.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

hmmm, local H might be right for that next to last one. that "keep it copacetic" song ... i can't remember the name, it's been years.

rajeev (rajeev), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

(Is that your final answer?)

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

rajeev (rajeev), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

dING!

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

(Well, that was two and a half hours passed.)

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

so what do i win?

rajeev (rajeev), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

Um ... more song snippets?

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 21:29 (twenty years ago)

Rajeev got nine out of ten yesterday first. If I had something more than a packet of lemon juice on my desk, I'd send him something because HE WAS THE BIG WINNER though Vinnie helped fill the last hole.

I was bored again today. Here are ten more song intro's, edited into an eight second MP3 file:

Oh, duh. And Green Day.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 9 June 2005 18:49 (twenty years ago)

the early/mid-90's alternative explosion was when i cut my teeth on being obsessed with music. i never really listen to the stuff now, but you never forget yr roots.

rajeev (rajeev), Thursday, 9 June 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

I'm amazed, just because they go by so fast.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 9 June 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

if only they'd revive 'name that tune' on TV.

"i can name that tune in ONE NOTE."

rajeev (rajeev), Thursday, 9 June 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

I'd watch if a coked-up Whitney Houston was the singing girl.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 9 June 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

One more to go, raj.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 9 June 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

rajeev (rajeev), Thursday, 9 June 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

i dunno, that last one is tough. a hint?

rajeev (rajeev), Thursday, 9 June 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

Hahaha and yet again I can fill in the last one. Rancid - Time Bomb, right?

Vinnie (vprabhu), Thursday, 9 June 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

Ka BAM!

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 9 June 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

Vinnie and Rajeev need to become bridge partners.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 9 June 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

rajeev (rajeev), Thursday, 9 June 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

One more for the weekend. Again, there are ten (10) song intro's arranged into this seven-second montage. They're still your standard alt-rock fare with one exception: All of today's snippets came to us FROM THE EIGHTIES!

Okay, another one just because it's Jingoistic Weekend in the upper two-thirds of North America.

You've got a small eight-second mp3 file here with ten song intros to identify. Today's catch? IT'S EIGHTIES METAL! \\M//

Well, metal that you would've heard on an active rock station fifteen, twenty years ago. Sorry, Diamondhead fans.

Choose one of the following:

1.) The You Send It link

or

2.) The Geocities link

Good luck, have fun, AND ROCK ON.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 1 July 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

5. Bringing on the Heartbreak, Def Leppard
6. ?
7. Rock You Like a Hurricane, Scorpions
