Tuomas: Why do Mieskuoro Huutajat keep shouting so much? (A thread about the Finnish shouting men's choir)

Apparently Mieskuoro Huutajat has been playing around Canada and North America lately, and I've heard them more than once on the CBC lately. I just heard this "Finnish shouting men's choir" do a loud version of our national anthem. I'm intrigued by this, notably, what it is about Finland that makes men think that shouting in unison is a fantastic idea? (I mean, obviously it is, but why are the Finns the only one to understand this?)

I love the tracks I've heard, but is the recording (ie, the CD) any good? I figured it was only worth springing ten or twenty quid if it was going to have real visceral impact outta the stereo...

Simply the best. Better than all the rest. Better than anyone. Anyone I've ever met.

The documentary about them is an awful lot of fun too.

I agree about the doc. Found it in Helsinki on DVD for pennies (well 7 Euro) and it comes with another doc about a pyramid scheme gone bad for some edging-towards retirement Finns. Scary stuff.

The auditions scene is very amusing.
