Um, back together? Who asked for this?

I mean, yeah they were alright, and had a couple of classics too.

But what is this? A Holiday job?

jesus wept. is that tosser in the flower costume still with them?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:11 (twenty years ago)

that one that went "oooohh I like, French wonssss"

(It's On (Feel Pain))

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:12 (twenty years ago)

they had lots of good songs! they were always underrated i think, though the production for the lp lets it down a bit

everyone reforms these days remember. im not interested in seeing any of them, whether i like them or not.

i like the past. in the past

good luck to them though, i dont begrudge them a 2nd crack

I remember on the Back To Mine show Keith Allen and Sean Rowley both concurred that they'd SHOULD'VE been as big as Oasis (before Oasis). Hmm.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

I can't imagine that. (Not the prog, I saw that one)

They must have been mates with Keith.

The day "It's On" came out they were doing a promo at HMV Oxford Circus and we got them to sign our copy of the 12". How many pints do you reckon that would buy me on ebay?

(probably about the level of that signed photograph of Barry Cryer that's been going on ebay for £1.50 for the last four years with no takers)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:27 (twenty years ago)

They must have been mates with Keith.

I imagine with the Mondays AWOL and New Order just not arsed with anything at all at that time he was probably looking for a new band to latch onto. I am going to start a proper Keith Allen thread soon.

Ha. I have a (admittedly not juicy) 'celeb viewing' for that one, when it happens.

So, the "Best of" is basically "A life of Brian" with the "Weekender" 12" added on the end.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 9 June 2005 10:36 (twenty years ago)

Flowered Up are/were a good band.

Yakuza Ghost Six (nordicskilla), Thursday, 9 June 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

"Weekender" is ace, as is the remixed "Weatherall's Weekender." Everything else was ruined by that voice.

Hutlock (Hutlock), Thursday, 9 June 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

four years pass...

According to Word's Twitter feed, Liam Maher has passed on.

Proof that southerners could do baggy. Some of them.

all I remembered about these guys was that I disliked them based off of "Weekender" but couldn't remember why until I listened to this:

oh right, kryptonite vocals, that's why I hated them

flowered up were on the line up for the original madstock.
i guess there was some london connection between the bands.
against my expectations (this was years after the album had bombed) they put on a cracking show - i seem to recall a long drawn out dubbed up track being a highlight.

I remember them being a surprising highlight of Glastonbury '92. "It's On" was a top tune - moreso than "Weekender" imo.
RIP.

DavidM, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 12:45 (sixteen years ago)

Sounds like genius:

Needless to say it all went wrong - after a week-long launch party for Weekender in a Surrey mansion (they didn't own it, they took it over) attended by everyone from Kylie to Hanif Kureshi, the band imploded under the weight of their drug consumption. Not long after I saw Liam, back on Camden Market selling dodgy tapes.

I like the film, even if the sex scene is horrible. 1991's starting to look quite old-fashioned.

The film looks great!
