mixed up

Have you ever gotten a song stuck in your head and had it completely mixed up? I had what I thought was a 70s punk song stuck in my head that I couldn't place, but it was actually The Backstreet Boys' "Larger Than Life" in punk guise. Rather unnerving.

My first memory of hearing the Smiths is a fast, rhythmic version of "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" played on Top of The Pops. Surely no such thing existed.

Mel: what a great concept! imagine that huge wide bass hook translated to nasty slashing glam chords. Supercool.

I've always had a lounge version on "out of step" (ala minor threat) in my head...

Whenever I try humming "it's gonna be me" starting from the part that's like "every little thing i do", i end up turning it into "larger than life". I'm trying to hum it now and the same thing is happening! is there something about that song that makes it stick in memory but not enough to be remembered right?

I keep merging the chorus of Weezer's "Hash Pipe" with the whoa yeah bit in Turn's "Too Much Make up". Does that count?

I always hear Frank Sinatra doing The Doors' "Touch Me" in my head... but he didn't, did he? He should have. Ole' Blue Eyes could have OWNED that song, like he ended up owning "Send In The Clowns."

i thought this would be on the cure's remix album. even if nobody wants to know it. it is one of my favourite records by the cure. it transposed the 80s cure to the 90s. they should do another one for the zero decade.

I always merge Simon & Garfunkle's "Cecillia" into Elvis' "Can't help falling in love" like this: "Whoa, Cecillia I'm down on my knees begging to please to come ho o ome o o oo oo o cause I can't help falling in love with you" I also thought that one smashmouth song was some 80s new wave song.

I once became obsessed with an imaginary version of the Shamen's Boss Drum, sung by Bob Dylan with the rap parts done by Melvyn Bragg.

one year passes...
I merge Talk Talk's "Such A Shame" with "It's You" because of the similar synth riffs in the chorus.

I was hoping this thread would be about The Cure.

Oh it's a long way... to Tipperary
By and by, Lord, by and by
There's a better home a-waitin
In the sky, Lord, in the sky!
