Anyone ever been a record company scout before?

I've just seen an ad for a student scout for a major record company at my uni job place. Requirements are a keen interest in Jazz (it then went on to mention Jamie Cullum and Groove Armada (!) and it also mentions that I will have to produce monthly reports on the talent I have found.

Will they actually pay me for writing about local talent? Or is this just a complete load of BS, anyone done anything like this before?

Skills needed: good musical ear, commercially aware, understanding of the market place, ability to make informed, detached decisions, good networker i.e. with agents, managers & promoters. Work will be on an as and when required basis so no fixed hours every week.

.. and no actual money, but you get to tell all your mates you're working and have insiders in the biz. Basically it's free beer and sex, but not from the company.

It did mention real money on the ad. I might just go for it and see what happens. How to impress these sorts of people though...

Free beer sounds good, free sex, err...
