I have the entries by Windy & Carl and Amp and enjoy both (particuarly the W&C). Any other favorites from this series?

(I'm asking because I could use some bliss right about now.)

The Cat's Miaow is so beautiful...

The only one I've heard is by Mus, a Spanish duo. It's very pretty, just two long (the larger one is 20+ minutes) folky-ambient tracks, all soft guitars, keyboards, rainwater samples, light cooing female vocals, ringing bells, a muted horn ... I wrote a post-September- 11th review of that, about its ability to soothe, and in retrospect I can't tell if it seems more cheesy to me than touching. You know, the whole 'coping with trauma' thing.

Mm, there are quite a few I like, actually. Bright, Orange Cake Mix, Mirza, Transient Waves, Sweet Trip...

Top of the heap, though -- Windy and Carl, the amazing Amp, and the utterly godlike Piano Magic.

i'd answer, but it would just seem gauche at this point.

given that it's the only one i've ever heard, i would be interested in reading descriptions of the other installments.

The Lilys one is... unique.

And mirza = merzbow-luddy valentine.

tomorrowland: C+

The American Analog Set's finest hour.

The Lilys one is great! Hardly bliss though. They're trying to be krautrock but not doing quite as good a job as they did with aping the Valentines.

I love the Cat's Miaow one but I wish it had been new songs rather than reworkings of old stuff. The Piano Magic one is great too. The W&C and Füxa blissouts didn't do a lot for me. Sweet Trip's is definitely worth a listen.....

I've never heard AMP referred to as amazing before. I've got all their Wurlitzer Jukebox stuff and the AMP Studio stuff and to be honest I think it's mainly horrible, tuneless rubbish. Is the blissout significantly different?

it's a good series overall. I like the FLowchart (first vol) a lot, as well as lilys, cat's miaow, piano magic, technicolor, tomorrowland, transient waves. You can go to the darla website (www.darla.com), search for bliss out, and get descriptions of all the releases.

Nope. It's beautiful drone serenity. Oh yes. :-)

as stated above the lily's ,piano magic and transient waves are all very nice with the transient waves disc being far better than their fat cat release.
anyone have any info on what happened to transient waves in regards to whether they are still together?

william harris, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Amp's Stenorette was jam-packed with tunes by the standards of this thread. A couple of earlier things they released might have been forgettable or worse.

Transient Waves = Thumbs Down

The toms absolutely ruined it for me.
