Cathederal City cheese use 'At The Hop' in their new advert. "Music used in advert shocker!" yeah, I know, but I was quite surprised when I first heard it.

ILM, what ad soundtracks have made you go, "Eh?"

I'm assuming they use the "put me in your breakfast / put me on your plate" part, right?

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 10 June 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

("Cause you know I taste great?")

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 10 June 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I assumed this was about Devendra Banhart manufacturing and selling his own line of cheese. That seemed plausible, somehow.

Well, he does live in France now.

It all makes a lot more sense than McDonalds using a Shins song including lines about "the dirt in your fries" and bakers bleeding all over the dough.

With the Gyspsy Kings!

Funnily enough, this song could well have been about cheese from the start! Cheese goes with everything, right? Devendra is listing all the places you should put cheese. Suitcases, for instance, in case you get hungry on the plane. Breakfasts and plates, obviously, cause cheese tastes great. Wet dreams? Who hasn't employed the sensual powers of cheese in his or her fantasy lovemaking? And with that "light me with your candle and watch the flames grow high," they introduce their new line of flammable cheeses -- stock them in your bomb shelter, and they'll do double-duty between sustenance and illumination.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 10 June 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, they use the 'you know I taste great' bit. An obvious lift but he never really struck me as a cheese advert type of fellow. Maybe he'll persuade Joanna Newsom to start flogging ham. Or, I suppose, milk. Or eyes.

Devendra Banhart cuts cheese.

PB, Saturday, 11 June 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

Did he move it as well?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 June 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

I would imagine Devendra's cheese would be one of those fancy artisanal cheeses you hear about, strongly influenced by French crottin, featuring a crunchy texture and a sweet, nutty flavor and embedded with dill pollen and lavender.

Hippie.

I'M NOT THE ONE WITH THE LONG HAIR.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 11 June 2005 00:51 (twenty years ago)

I transcend mere descriptions.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 June 2005 00:51 (twenty years ago)

I have a disgusting mental image when I think about Devendra Banhart with his long grimy hair eating a hunk of cheese. Like that scene in Trading Places when Dan Akroyd eats the salmon through his dirty Santa Claus beard....

Where's that link to my Franz Ferdinand eat sandwiches thread? Why can't I find threads of mine I've posted in the last two weeks?

While not exactly surprising me on first sighting, can I use this opportunity to rage against the effect of those damn iPod ads? If I hear Jet, Gorillaz or Caesers now, those empty silhouettes begin rollerskating around my head taunting me like the cursed undead...

Too bad, that's a tremendous (if vague) Pop Parable:
Devendra Banhart makes cheese, Franz Ferdinand eat sandwiches.
