vahid (vahid), Friday, 10 June 2005 21:15 (nineteen years ago)

Mr. Pasty there needs help. He's like Feargal Sharkey on Axl Rose's incipiently-flabby torso.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 June 2005 21:17 (nineteen years ago)

does his sweatshirt say rape?

That One Guy (That One Guy), Friday, 10 June 2005 21:20 (nineteen years ago)

Smile for the camera, Hov!

Lukas (lukas), Friday, 10 June 2005 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

Who the hell are Fall Out Boy?

I think they are a pop-punk band and they probably get their name from the Simpsons episode where Milhouse gets the role of "Fall Out Boy" (the episode also has the famous "Goggles do nothing" line.

Cunga (Cunga), Friday, 10 June 2005 21:46 (nineteen years ago)

JIGGA'S INTO EMO?!?!?!?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 10 June 2005 21:46 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno maybe B is, she looks happier to be there than him. Although I imagine she's a lot more easygoing and graceful than him in general.

Lukas (lukas), Friday, 10 June 2005 21:56 (nineteen years ago)

you have restored my faith in mankind, lukas :-)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 10 June 2005 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

it has something to do with the island records connection i believe

charleston charge (chaki), Friday, 10 June 2005 22:43 (nineteen years ago)

Fall out boy is something that 19 year old kids ask for rides to go see on the rochester NY livejournal community.

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Friday, 10 June 2005 22:51 (nineteen years ago)

Surely he must only be there because he wants to be there, it's not like he has to do anything he doesnt want to do any more, especially with the obscene amount of money he is perching on.

Don Rowlando (Sam Rowlands), Friday, 10 June 2005 22:52 (nineteen years ago)

Linkin Park probably turned him on to 'em.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 10 June 2005 22:54 (nineteen years ago)

DO THEY HAVE A SONG CALLED "JIMMINY JILLICKERS"?!?!?!?!!? XPOST?!?!

No, his sweatshirt says BAPE aka "A Bathing Ape", a ridiculously expensive Japanese "limited edition" t-shirts and sweatshirts clothing line/scam.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Friday, 10 June 2005 23:34 (nineteen years ago)

dude I would've joined an emo band a long time ago if I thought it'd give me a chance to hang out with Jay-Z.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 11 June 2005 01:43 (nineteen years ago)

they make "limited edition" clothes?
i was not aware of this.

That One Guy (That One Guy), Saturday, 11 June 2005 01:53 (nineteen years ago)

but jay-z doesn't exactly look THRILLED to be meeting w/ these guys!!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 11 June 2005 01:54 (nineteen years ago)

has jay-z ever looked thrilled to be doing anything?
he always looks like a depressed monkey with pudding stuffed in his cheeks.

That One Guy (That One Guy), Saturday, 11 June 2005 01:59 (nineteen years ago)

Whoa, a black person into something other than rap and R&B. This MUST be a first, I mean I never thought it was possible. What a motherfuckin' sooprise!

they make "limited edition" clothes?
i was not aware of this.

-- That One Guy (Glixe...), June 11th, 2005.

um, ever heard of the fashion industry?

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 11 June 2005 02:22 (nineteen years ago)

how is it a scam?
am i supposed to feel sorry for people who can afford expensive clothes because they have been duped somehow?

mitch dub (ano ano), Saturday, 11 June 2005 02:45 (nineteen years ago)

God, Johnny Tattoo guy just looks like he's trying way to hard to make sure everyone sees his bitchin' ink. Everyone else managed to keep their shit on, Illustrated Man! It ain't that hot.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 11 June 2005 05:18 (nineteen years ago)

the funniest thing is, that those emo guys are ALL about as far away from being "playas" as NYC is from outer mongolia.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 11 June 2005 05:20 (nineteen years ago)

I don't blame Jay-Z for looking uncomforable. They are CRAMPING the man's style somethin' fierce.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 11 June 2005 05:21 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i agree -- i mean, that picture pretty much sums up EVERY argument trife made when he was here.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 11 June 2005 05:26 (nineteen years ago)

... not that i wouldn't look that dorky standing next to any hip-hop star myself.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 11 June 2005 05:28 (nineteen years ago)

i'm pretty sure fall out boy deny their name has anything to do with said fox cartoon creation. which is probably smart. umm... xpost.

A Bathing Ape was so three years ago in Japan.

Super Cub (Debito), Saturday, 11 June 2005 11:49 (nineteen years ago)

He is insanely pasty though. I'm browsing with a borrowed projector, so I'm looking at a 4 by 4 meter image of him, and he looks downright Fluorescent. Dude's like a glowstick

timbraun, Saturday, 11 June 2005 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

No, his sweatshirt says BAPE aka "A Bathing Ape", a ridiculously expensive Japanese "limited edition" t-shirts and sweatshirts clothing line/scam.

But the shop in Japan rocks! I mean, it's one of the nicest I've ever seen. Doesn't really justify the price of course.

nathalie's post modern sleaze fest (stevie nixed), Saturday, 11 June 2005 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

The Fall Out Boy website is pretty amazing, with all the 'Vote for our video on TRL!', Vote for Joe and Andy in the Worlds Sexiest Vegetarian Contest!', etc. ad infinitum.

Mike Dixn (Mike Dixon), Saturday, 11 June 2005 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

This is awesome:

"please keep voting on friday, we want to show them we can stay! the phones mean so much more than the web but do whatever you can when it comes to voting.
truefucking love.
Peter"

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Saturday, 11 June 2005 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

...And they're giving away PlayStations!

Either I'm getting really old, or the street-team marketing tactics more niche-y and insidious, but it still blows my mind that an American rock band can sell out Irving Plaza without me ever hearing their name.

Granted, it's even more amazing when, say, Kasabian or Razorlight sell out Bowery Ballroom six months before their debut album is scheduled to come out in the US. Although in those cases, I'm willing to believe that these are trumped-up industry events where 3/4 of the crowd is comprised of ultragrrrls.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Saturday, 11 June 2005 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

can we talk about beyonce's hair?

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Saturday, 11 June 2005 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

xpost about ye clothes-

I understand high prices in fashion for a piece that is intricately constructed and has a small potential set of people who would buy it and wear it- so the prices for clothes by Jeremy Scott and As Four don't strike me as crazy expensive given their labour intensive, by-hand construction and the cottage industry nature of what they're doing- the reason I called BAPE a scam is that they are treating simple silkscreens on t-shirts as if they had some aura of "scarcity". But hey, some of the shirts are cool, and if I was Jay-Z there are certainly more arrogant and expensive things to buy and wear than BAPE.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Saturday, 11 June 2005 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

Fair enough, I admit owning some Comme Des Garcons and Watanabe pieces, and they're clearly worth the price just for the ingenuity, materials and labor that went into them... but the same designers, whom I respect tremendously, will also happily sell you a $90 t-shirt with "Comme Des Garcons" silk-screened on it; is it evil? Nah - if you (the consumer) are dumb enough to crave the brand itself, divorced from anything that actually makes it good, here ya go, you nouveau riche dolt.

If *all* BAPE does is silk-screen pictures on what appears from this photo to be Fruit Of The Loom gym clothes, well, that's a different story.

Whoa, a black person into something other than rap and R&B. This MUST be a first, I mean I never thought it was possible. What a motherfuckin' sooprise!

But Jay-Z seems to have a perverse agenda here. Wallowing in the crappiest white music is just a way of proving that he's utterly transcended the normal categories of the rap world. Its as if he's saying 'Behold Jay-Z! I can appear beside the likes of Phish and Fall Out Boy and yet miraculously remain cool!'

Jeff Kejfeds, Saturday, 11 June 2005 17:54 (nineteen years ago)

You all seem to forget that he did an album with Linkin Park.

fall out boy are actually very good. i liked their last record a lot. and they're headlining warped tour and will definitely be this year's jimmy eat world (or my chemical romance), for reals.

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Saturday, 11 June 2005 20:09 (nineteen years ago)

the reason I called BAPE a scam is that they are treating simple silkscreens on t-shirts as if they had some aura of "scarcity".

And the Louis Vitton canvas bags are presented as being luxurious, most even think it's made in leather. I mean, it has little to do with the product itself - more with the image that's build around it. Scarce? Only couture (and even then...) is scarce. (And yet I still buy (into) that.)

nathalie's post modern sleaze fest (stevie nixed), Saturday, 11 June 2005 20:13 (nineteen years ago)

I meant Vuitton of course. duh.

Watch for the ‘Fall Out’
By Meghan Collinge
Collegian Freelancer
Attention Ladies and Gentlemen: Fall Out Boy is going to take over the world, or at least the pop-punk scene.
Fall Out Boy, a quartet hailing from Chicago, is set to release its major label debut on Island/Def Jam Records May 3. Their previous releases Take This To Your Grave (2003) and My Heart Will Always be the B-Side to my Tongue (2004) are available on Fueled by Ramen Records.
Island Records is already calling this their biggest release of 2005-2006.
Jay-Z, President of Def Jam, promises that everyone will know Fall Out Boy by the end of 2005.
From Under the Cork Tree provides a mix of catchy, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, rock riffs, and a little tambourine. It has something for everyone.
blah, blah, etc...

Mystery solved!

i had the EXACT same argument about bathing ape clothing with my friend a really long time ago (in like the late '90s or something! weird)

anyway i noticed his exlusive BAPE t-shirt was just printed on a regular old hanes t.

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 12 June 2005 18:48 (nineteen years ago)

does that make me a clothing r*ckist?

It's probably just Pharrell's last year's hand-me-downs anyway, given away after he got through fellating Nigo in the latest issue of Interview magazine.

[Not sure how the fellatio was performed via the translator though; Any ideas?]

Not true at all. Every emo guy I've met has always had a huge legion of female fans who love how tormented and deep they seemingly are.

howell huser (chaki), Thursday, 27 October 2005 02:02 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...
lol... Falloutboy settles out of court for their stealing Some Girls dude's lyrics:

Fall Out Boy's local lyricist

SOUTH Philly's Wesley Eisold is credited as co-writer on three songs on Fall Out Boy's new record "Infinity on High."

How did Eisold get hooked up with Fall Out Boy? He won't say.

However, sources familiar with the lyrics of Eisold's former band American Nightmare say several phrases and verses on F.O.B's multi-platinum "From Under the Cork Tree" were lifted from American Nightmare lyrics and poetry Eisold wrote elsewhere.

Eisold, a Boston transplant who sings in hardcore punk act Some Girls, moved to Philly in August. We're told Eisold never gave permission for his lyrics to be used, and never received any royalties from record sales. On some versions of "From Under the Cork Tree," Eisold is listed as "Inspirador," and on other copies it says "Tear Chaser inspired by Wesley Eisold of Some Girls."

Sources say Eisold and the band reached an out-of-court settlement on the lifted lyrics. But Eisold declined to discuss the matter when contacted for this story.

Fall Out Boy's label Island/ Def Jam did not respond to our detailed request for comment.
