Who's setting up the Grindie in 2008 thread?

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

"Some critics have accused it of being a press invention (comparable with nu rave)."

westwood has ruff sqwad on right now... i love how so many grime mcs sound totally unimpressed/weirded out by westwood. surprised to see ruff sqwad still about - i thought most of them were leaving the music for their real proper jobs... i wish westwood played the beats a bit louder though, you can barely hear the music on his shows when he has MCs on.

titchyschneiderMk2, Sunday, 13 January 2008 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, he is a terrible host if you actually want to hear the MCs...

They have 'real proper jobs'?!

"London Underground" by Bashy is a good song!

Dom Passantino, Sunday, 17 February 2008 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

Even though Rich Hall was doing the same thing in his stand-up routines around 1999.

im totally out the loop with 2008 grime. but its worrying when the best beats you seem to hear on sets now are old ones.

Scratcha has good on-air persona though. Even though he plays Count and Sinden these days...

this ghetto freedom of speech cd is surprisingly really good so far (on my first listen). thought he would get quite boring but hes quite versatile.

despite some crappily stuck in refs to the film, the bashy song for adulthood is pretty good.

some good stuff out there at the mo - dok's mixtape, the tinchy and maniac cd (some blinding beats on this, though wish it was all of ruff sqwad, not just stryder on them) and that newham generals violence video which makes you forgive the delay on the album. the nasty jack cd is meant to be good too.

titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 1 December 2008 19:09 (seventeen years ago)

that dok cd is GREAT.

lex pretend, Monday, 1 December 2008 20:41 (seventeen years ago)

doks brill.

newham generals - violence:

such a good video. and g-man tears it down. if the albums like this it could be insane.

titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 1 December 2008 20:54 (seventeen years ago)

What's the DOK CD called? I tried to check but the Myspace page just has GET ME GET ME GET ME written across it in massive great letters that make it impossible to read anything else.

Matt DC, Monday, 1 December 2008 21:10 (seventeen years ago)

how many years is it now that newham gens have been promising an album?? the dok mixtape is called document chapter 1...it was pretty much straight-up highlights throughout.

lex pretend, Monday, 1 December 2008 21:18 (seventeen years ago)

about 3-4 years. too long i know but i think they might get it right. jammers on dizzees label too now but ive a feeling it wont take for him as long cos he seems more of a finished article than the gens.

Listening to DOK now... good lord, someone point me in the direction of a vocal version of Famous *this instant*. They need to give it to Chipmunk or someone like that.

Matt DC, Monday, 1 December 2008 23:27 (seventeen years ago)

id like to hear trim on ask about me...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2008/dec/05/wiley-see-clear-now
still not heard this - been purposely avoiding that one with daniel merriweather - but its weird - youd think that if wiley was gonna do a cash in album, he would at least do it more in the vein of rolex rather than in at the deep end.

petridis sadly otm here:

"See Clear Now resembles a lot of grime artists' albums: a few good tracks, some filler, the creeping sensation that the MC doesn't have anywhere near as much to say for himself as he thinks he does."
